Think he's mellowed out a bit. Matured, maybe?
The part with Prime is absolutely in character, though.
I'll accept he's able to break Rulk's arm, too.
Namor with a percentage of the Phoenix Force did so; understandable Prime could.Sounds about right ...

This IS one possibility, though perhaps not quite the likeliest ...
Can't give up Rhodey just yet.
I agree: immediately after Ares, Rulk and War Machine ARE the weakest links on the battlefield and ready to go.
However, you haven't explained what happened to Thor.
You haven't so much as distracted him from your description.
Remember, WHATEVER method you chose for Prime disposing of Ares, Thor has just seen this boy KILL a teammate.
Let's say it was giving Ares the Voidtry treatment, i.e. ripping him in half.
Then Thor, besides general knowledge of Prime, knows that this boy is
a) strong enough to rip a superhuman in half
b) psychotic and violent enough to do so
c) tough enough to endure a VERY forceful hammer throw
d) strong enough to cause environmental effect
e) strong enough to break Rulk's arm
f) strong enough to match World War Hulk in grapplingAll this tells me that Thor is going to be taking this extremely seriously, preventing Prime from getting to the weaker members (Tony, Rhodey, and Rulk) even at risk to himself.
And, again, you have not so much as distracted Thor, who is innately looking to get a piece of the action even without this extra incentive.
Clarify how Ares met his end, but I say War Machine under THESE circumstances, Thor still nearby and alert to the physical threat Prime represents, is saved by Thor trying a quick lightning strike or tackling Prime to prevent him from doing to Rhodey what he's ALREADY done to Ares and Rulk.
Rhodey will probably meet his end before this is through, but it doesn't sound reasonable that with an alert, as-yet-unwaylaid Thor being right there nearby that it happens THIS way.
Goldilocks won't permit that until he himself is too far away or has some circumstantial barrier to interceding, a blow, a heat vision wound, some crisis to innocent bystanders, SOMETHING to warrant essentially giving a second teammate to Prime.
Rulk still is the type to rush in and pound away. Maybe the gloating was a bit much but the action is very much in character. And you stated that these guy use the hammer lifting time to "close the distance" so Thor wouldn't be protecting them at this point.
Rulk is lucky i just gave him a broken arm here. Might have to alter when WM dies tho as you do make a good point. Thor was back trying to devise a plan with IM which is why he wasn't in the fray right away but it is more in character for his to just run in swinging huh?
