Grifter's instincts about how afraid Helspont was of Cole are far more on-point considering that in the prior issue, Helspont's enraged with his seers that the "Chosen One" always wins per prophecy.
Grifter has yet to reach his full potential, which is what Helspont wanted. He didn't really beat Helspont one on one.

Did Grifter finish the job? Did he KO Helspont? Helspont would have won in the end, IMO and Grifter has yet to fully control his powers, which is why he's getting a Yoda type sensei to perfect his skills. Once he does, I can see him beating Helspont.

And it's Grifter's own fault for trusting Deathblow to destroy the ship per their plan that he didn't stick around to finish taking his revenge personally. And while it's possible Helspont may have won in the end, he was the one on his knees and Grifter wasn't. Accordingly, I won't be placing him anywhere near Annihilus' level, his one-sided beatdowns of Superman notwithstanding.
