Iron Man 3 vs Man of Steel

So, MOS made 125 so far, with 113 OW. Setting the June record. Well deserved.

BTW, WB is the #1 money maker overseas for the past several years. They know how to push in other markets. 2 films have already made past 300 M overseas and that's Hangover 3 and Great Gatsby.

From BOM:

Man of Steel expands in to France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Russia and China next weekend—if it does similarly strong business in those markets, an overseas gross north of $500 million is likely.

We're definitely getting a sequel and a perfect launching point for a shared DCU. 😎

MOS is doing amazing numbers for a reboot/origin. The best in SH history. Congrats Snyder.

That is good news. That means we could see MOS getting 850 million worldwide.

I'm gonna talk to Newjak about banning Golgo from this thread. mmm

Glad MoS is doing so well. 👆

according to Wall Street Journal via comicbookmovie, a sequel as quickly as next year..

no contest, although Supes should be good, Iron Man 3 will be kick ass and make a ton of dough

Did someone signal me 🙂

Man of Stool was Epic.

Intl opening of #ManOfSteel also higher than projected. $73.3M, global debut of $202M despite many key mkts not opening yet.

And it made a little bit more in domestic totals. Final total is 116M which is really good.

Yeah, if we exclude the 12 million from Walmart screening, it's 15th biggest opening and the biggest super hero origin opening.

It was better than IM 3 in action and characters but the story was weaker than IM3. The pacing was weird and the story was not developed well. MOS did give us a memorable Superman that looked the part. Most MOS characters had their moments unlike Rhodes who didn't do much in IM3. Had Black actually done an actual Mandarin I would be so happy instead we got that garbage twist. IM3 could've used more Iron Man and War Machine action. Man of Steel could've developed the story better and cut back on the fight scenes. So many hits happened in fights, I hardly remember what was happening.

Can't wait for the directors cut. Should clear some of the negatives for me.

One thing I was pleased with, they got the scale and pace of a superman fight down pat. Massive property destruction that comes easily and fights that are often lengthy due to Superman's and his opponents durability. That action got me excited for what they could do with a Death of Superman story.

$12.6M official MON gross on #ManOfSteel, $141.3M cume. Heading to $170M+ after 1st full week.

Not bad at all.

That's more than Iron Man 3 made on it's first monday of release.......

Not surprising. It's June and kids get the Summer off.

MOS is still holding well in Asia.

Manila, June 17, 2013 – Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ “Man of Steel” has opened to a record-breaking P247-million in the Philippines, marking the all-time biggest June opening ever in the industry.

The announcement was made today by Francis Soliven, General Manager of Warner Bros. (F.E.), Inc. which distributed the film. “We’re thrilled at the tremendous response we’ve seen from audiences across the country to Zack Snyder’s exciting new vision of the iconic Super Hero,” said Soliven. “From internet presales to people lining up for theaters, `Man of Steel’ has proven to be the must-see film of the season.”

The new Superman movie shattered the record for highest June opening weekend in history previously held by “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” 2011. “Man of Steel” also outgrossed 2011’s “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2” to claim the best weekend launch ever for a Warner Bros. title.

Earlier Wednesday, June 12 the Henry Cavill-starrer established a new record for all-time biggest first-day gross with P69.52-M, eclipsing the milestone “Iron Man 3” reached last April with P62.9-M. SM North EDSA got the lion’s share of gross receipts with P14.74-M, followed by SM Mall of Asia (P14.24-M) and SM Megamall (P10.77-M). The best-selling cinemas also include Trinoma (P9.18-M), Glorietta 4 (P7.74-M), SM Cebu (P6.81-M), SM Southmall (P6.44-M), Newport (P5.80-M), Gateway (P5.79-M) and Power Plant (P5.38-M). Rounding out the Top 20 theaters are Eastwood (P5.29-M), SM Fairview (P4.99-M), Greenbelt 3 (P4.89-M), SM Aura (P4.46-M), Alabang Town Center (P4.24-M), Market! Market! (P3.96-M), Shang Cineplex (P3.70-M), SM Clark (P3.55-M), SM San Lazaro (P3.42-M) and SM Marikina (P3.21-M).
