Iron Man 3 vs Man of Steel

Started by CPT Space Bomb39 pages

I think people underestimate the value of "Fun" in a movie. Iron Man 3 was fun. I'm hoping that I'll have fun when I watch MOS. I probably will, as I don't mind serious comic movies (in fact, I kinda prefer them). But the average majority of people might frown upon a "Dark Superman" flick. Dunno.....I can't wait to see it though.

Shannon is great in Take Shelter.

It looks like the early estimate is around 150 OW! At least that's what I'm reading on the box office forums. This movie HAS A SHOT to beat IM 3 domestic. And some people thought IM 3 would EASILY win. ❌

I'm betting around 130, though.

Supposedly this made 50-55M OPENING DAY! That's WITHOUT the WM showings.

Maybe Robinov was right. This could be WB's most profitable movie. Or at least one of them. And this is without any Avengers effect.

Damn. I wonder what happens when you put Batman (Which made over 1B) and Superman in the same movie? Along with Flash and Green Lantern. Would probably outgross Avatar. lol

How much did IM3 make domestic?

As of now, just shy of 400 mill. IM3 should be able to pass that number.

Many of the hardcore BO doubters said it would get 300M (MOS), but now they said it definitely has the potential to pass 400 just like IM 3. 🙂

It's the NOLAN effect! 😱

BO doubters?

im just waiting for someone to start Nolan hate.. anyway in 7 hours my butt will be in the fifth row watching this

Posters on the BO forums. Who track as a hobby. All films, BTW. Not just SH ones.

So far it's estimated to be 56 million Friday but they included the Wal-Mart showings in that figure and Forbes is predicting MOS to beat Toy Story 3 for the June OW.

Body Odor forums??

I thought the movie was great. By the end I was baffled people found anything to complain about.

It does have an Avengers effect. The Avengers hype brought even more intrigue into this genre. With the list of good comic book movies put out by Marvel & Nolan, the ground works was laid for Superman's return. Try and take those out of the equation and put MOS a few years after Superman Returns and you would get box office numbers slightly higher than Batman Begins. First Class suffer because of X3 & Wolverine: Origins. So did the Spiderman reboot even though it was entirely better than SM3. With the spand of 7 years and all that good will gained by Marvel & Batman, it's why MOS is this successful. I posted the same point much earlier in this thread while some DC fans were downplaying MOS's earning, not even sure that it would hit a billion. The Avengers contributed even more goodwill towards this genre so yes it helped propel MOS box office numbers.

facepalm at people praising Nolan for Man of Steel.

Yes, his Dark Knight Trilogy was good. But he did jack all for this movie outside of put his name on it and tell people "hey, it will be good".

Yeah, but his name had a marketing effect. And it seems to have worked. Most movie goers won't realize he didn't have a hand in creating what we saw. Obviously we know he didn't actually do anything for the movie but adding his name added $ to the pot and his own personal reputation grew with the masses.

Yeah, which is what I'm saying.

Yet people online - and idiots I know in person - are saying he did a great job with Man of Steel and he's receiving praise for the movie.

Got this from the Superman boards.

"Notably, the 3D movie -- starring British actor Henry Cavill -- grossed $5.2 million in the U.K., pacing ahead of blockbuster Iron Man 3 to score the best opening day of 2013 so far. Man of Steel captured 70 percent of the market and performed on par with last year's superhero extravaganza The Avengers."

I wonder what the final total will be OS?
