Well, the actor mostly. And his speech to Superman at the end was pretty cool... I just thought (while he was beaten by both -Els...) I could relate to his cause...he was born and bred to protect Kryptonians and he believed what he was doing was right.

See, I thought him being beaten by both undermined his competence as a villain. Most villains do believe what they are doing is justified. Zod was bred for that purpose but he was shown up too many times for me to take as a serious threat.
But Michael Shannon is a good actor and I still think, even though he "jobbed" a bit, he was still the best villain in a comic movie for a while. Mandarin in IM3 was so disappointing... I'm not a huge Mandarin fan, but I know he should have been handled with more respect than he was.

Mandarin started out awesome and if they continued with that, could have easily surpassed Michael Shannon's roll as Zod, IMO.
