What is the rationale for being a early adopter?

I have never understood buying, really any technology that's more expensive than say a hundred bucks, at launch.

You're right, it doesn't make any sense for the average consumer.

I think its all a scam to spur consumer spending. Either a company is just buying out its own stock, sending stock so limited its guaranteed to sell out fast, or never sent it in the first place and everyone else is in on the lie. But Nintendo has been doing this for decades, making buzz off shortages. People go crazy and become obsessed with hunting down this "in demand" product.

I think there is a big difference compared to other console launches...COVID. Seven years ago, there would be a lot more people buying in a store..but most are buying online and there is probably supply issues.

Microsoft just acquired ZeniMax...which includes all of Bethesda.

Was not expecting that!

That was a really smart move by MS.

I had already decided to purchase the PS5 over the new XBOX console but now with MS buying ZeniMax they will have exclusive rights to the Fallout and Elder Scrolls games since they are made by Bethesda.

Those are two game series I just hate to do without so I'm seriously considering getting the new XBOX now instead of the PS5. If it wasn't for the fact that I hate XBOX controllers and much prefer Playstation's trophy system over XBOX's achievement system I would already be fully onboard with getting an XBOX instead.

Then of course the new XBOX is much cheaper than the PS5 disc console from what I've heard and at least as powerful so that is another plus for the XBOX.

Wow. $220 for extra storage for the Series X? Whenever I do get that system, it's a good thing I'm content with the 1TB amount. Yeesh O_o

You don't need it. You can attach a USB drive to it.

The only thing is that Series X games need to be used from the internal but you can easily transfer them from the external drive.

Also, Xbox One games can be played from the USB drive.

Probably best to wait and see. Elder Scrolls 6 won’t be out for a long while. A new Fallout, even longer. And it is possible that they still get released for Playstation. I don’t think they will but you never know until they announce it.

I agree. I think of all the games and developers that came with this acquisition, Bethesda Software games are probably the only ones that might be non-exclusive.

Only because it might make more financial sense to release on all platforms because they amount of sales it could generate.

I think all the other companies are going to be exclusives. I think a series like Doom is worth more as an exclusive than multi-plat.

You could make the same argument for Halo or really any other major exclusive game. The only way I see TES on Playstation is if Sony allows Gamepass on their system; which obviously won't happen.

Not really, most exclusives were originally made as exclusives and generally tied to brand. Their system sellers. That's why you never see exclusive franchises on different platforms.

However look at what Microsoft did with Minecraft. One of the biggest videogames to come out...and its available on all devices. They could of easily bought the product and then made it exclusive on Xbox One (or PC through Windows store)...but they didn't. Even new Minecraft games like Dungeons has been released on Playstation.

Yes, Minecraft is a different situation than most..but so its Bethesda Software games...they have sold over 30 million copies of Skyrim....a game like Halo would not do those type of sales multi-plat.

Yes really. TES VI would be a system seller. Heck just look at this thread, we have someone contemplating getting a Xbox over a PS because of it. And Halo used to be a juggernaut, not Skyrim big admittedly, but massive. And of course there are the Nintendo exclusives which do put up massive numbers. The simple fact is M$ did not drop 7.5 billion dollars simply so they could make money selling games. They did is so that people would join their gaming ecosystem, in particular Game Pass. Releasing TES VI on PS5 would be detrimental to that goal.

As for Minecraft, Minecraft is not a system seller. It's a casual game.

Even before they bought Bethesda, I was still gonna consider getting the Series X over the PS5. Because compared to Sony, MS isn't a complete A-hole. At least they can honor deals made prior to buyouts so will continue having Minecraft & Elder Scrolls Online supported across platforms and giving PS5 the timed exclusives promised. If Sony bought Minecraft & Bethesda, wouldn't be surprised if they laughed at that wacky nonsense and told ya too bad.

Minecraft not a system seller? Tell that to the 200 million copies sold.

If you could only get Minecraft on a Xbox, it would greatly help the sale of the consoles.

It's not even a game. It's tedium personified.

With so many fun games out there, why on earth anyone bought this snooze fest is beyond me. Let alone enough people to make the dev filthy rich.

Merely selling copies does not make it a system seller. Like I said, it's a casual game. Very few people are going to drop hundreds of dollars to play it (though I'm sure there are some hard core enough to do that).

Yeah, unpopular opinion here, but Minecraft f***ing sucks. My friend made me get it years ago to play together and it was such a bore. I dunno how people play it for hundreds of hours.

The main appeal is building what ya want and when you wanna know what to build, it can be fun.

I can do that with a pen and paper. 👇

You're right. I'm going to hold off until at least January before finally deciding; need to save up a little money anyway and I still have some games on PS3 to keep me satisfied till then.

Also, considering how Bethesda royally f'ed-up with Fallout 76 (from all the stuff I've heard) and how Fallout 4 was a letdown compared to the previous games (again, according to the opinions I've heard from many people online who've played it) I have my doubts about Bethesda ever making a good Fallout game again.

There is nothing wrong with Fallout 4. It's a pretty good game...is it better than Fallout 3? Tough to say because Fallout 3 was fantastic but it definitely plays better.

Fallout 76 was a misstep but I don't Todd Howards group was the main developers.
