There is nothing wrong with Fallout 4. It's a pretty good game...is it better than Fallout 3? Tough to say because Fallout 3 was fantastic but it definitely plays better.

Fallout 76 was a misstep but I don't Todd Howards group was the main developers.

Then why did I see so many devoted Fallout fans on You Tube talking about how F4 was massively inferior to both F3 and FNV from an RPG perspective?

From what I've heard, yes, it had much superior shooting mechanics but it sucked as an RPG and role playing is what matters most in an RPG game.

Again, I've never actually played the game but I've seen tons of anti-F4 videos on You Tube; I don't think all the people who made them were all lying about how poorly the game was from an RPG pov.

And I know people who played it and enjoyed it very much. Is it better than Fallout 3 or Fallout New Vegas....I don't think maybe?

I don't think it's as good as Fallout 3 but I have a personal attachment to that game so take that with a grain of salt. I was never as keen with New Vegas as much as others.

But overall, is Fallout 4 a bad game. It's certainly not....it's a good game. Is it worth playing? Yes...absolutely.

Yes, I'm sure there are plenty of people who actually enjoyed it and that's fine. But was it the combat that they liked so much about it or the RPG elements? A combination of both? I'll bet for most who liked it so much it was the first option mostly.

F4 may very well be a good or even great game on it's own merit but is it really a good Fallout game? Iow, does it do well what made Fallout so popular in the first place?

Fallout games are supposed to be about role playing in a massive open world environment. Yes, it's great to have good combat but not if it means sacrificing the great RPG elements that made the series so beloved by so many. By sacrificing I don't necessarily mean doing away with them entirely but instead lowering the quality of the RPG aspects of the game.

If I wanna play a shooter then I'll go play an actual shooter like Borderlands or CoD or whatever. My first instinct would not be to go play a game which is supposed to be mainly about role playing with some shooting elements mixed in. F4, unlike the other fallout games, is more of a shooter with some RP elements mixed in.

Glad you liked it and I may eventually pick it up but I don't expect to love it like I did F3 and FNV.

A lot of people felt that Fallout 3 was a letdown too, iirc.

I get the idea that sequel should always be better than the previous game. And Fallout 4 failed that...it was better from a mechanics point of view but it lacked something that Fallout 3 had. For a lot of people, it was the lack of character voice options (which I had no problem)...but it was still a good game.

But people saying is shit are totally blowing it out of proportion.

It was definitely a letdown for me at first because I played FNV before I played it and FNV just seemed so much better. F3 just seemed like a massive downgrade to me. Of course that was before I really came to appreciate the setting of F3 and all the interesting locations in the game.

I eventually fell in love with F3 but I never liked it as much as I liked FNV. F3 would be even better if it had a hardcore mode as FNV did.

So Silksong will be a Switch exclusive.

That sucks.

Read an article that claimed Sony shouldn't buy Final Fantasy or Metal Gear because they aren't system sellers in the US like Skyrim.

Is that a fact? Personally, I'd trade Metal Gear or FF for Skyrim any day. I don't really consider Skyrim on their level, as quality games or as immersive experiences.

Frankly, I'd be surprised if Skyrim was even a better household name. I mean, Final Fantasy 7 and Metal Gear were cultural phenomenons. EVERYONE played and talked about them back in the day.

Elder Scrolls games seemed to me more for those nerdy outcast D&D playing PC gamers.

I agree actually. Have not seen nearly as much a cultural impact with Elder Scrolls as like those examples.

Never played those games (never even heard of them until people on this forum starting mentioning them) but Skyrim is a hard game to beat, imo. Few games I've played are on its level and I play it on console. I'm sure I'd enjoy it even more on PC with mods.

And the old D&D tabletop game was awesome, btw.

Huh? I enjoy both FF and MGS but neither of them have had a massive cultural impact. In fact, I'd say only FF7 really had an impact at all.

You've no clue what you are talking about. Yes, back in the day, FF was massive. But nowadays, Skyrim has far overtaken it (at least in the west). FF is considered the "nerd" game whereas Skyrim is far more mainstream. And MGS isn't even a blip on the radar when compared to either.

And I say all this as a fan of all three franchises.

Xbox Series Xs are reportedly getting hot now like literally.

Interesting conversation. Before Skyrim I would consider elder scrolls something of a niche series. But Skyrim changed that. It is in the top 20 selling video games of all time and is pretty much a house hold name.

No single FF game has sold that much but the series as a whole has sold something like 150 million copies and is also a household name.

As far as what is the more valuable IP right now it’s probably ES but if the next ES game isn’t as good or doesn’t become the phenomenon that Skyrim did it’ll definitely be FF as that series has appeal in Japan as well.

So it would seem the report about the Series X getting crazy hot might've been exaggerated.

The fact this "journalist's" video got pulled & redacted oughta tell ya something.

Is this really a surprise to anybody?

A relief to many I'm sure. The report did trend a bit sparking small outrage.

Also....I never really understood the issue. So it gets toasty....most electronics that have that much power get hot. It's designed to get cooled....

Also, I cannot believe Microsoft would give out Series X to Youtubers and etc...if there was major issues with cooling.

People don't want their electronics catching fire, imagine that. 😱

And they wouldn't......

Couple of sites are reporting that "Mass Effect: Legenday Edition" has been rated in S. Korea.

Hoping we get more about it soon, to see if they actually changed anything other than some of the graphics.
