I'm curious how Sony can respond to this buyout. With CoD going exclusive (and it will 100% go exclusive don't kid yourself like you did with Elder Scrolls) Microsoft has pretty much cornered the multiplayer gaming market. I've seen a lot of people say Sony should buy other big companies, but they simply don't have the capital to do so. Furthermore, nothing they could buy would match CoD going exclusive.

They can start by having PlayStation HQ back to when it was before moving to the United States. Been bogged by bad decisions there ever since.

No chance that it's free with Live. They may offer a reduction in price if you're also subscribed to Gamepass (not live) but there is a lot of money to be had there.

Well not free completely, there would still be buying the retail of course, but I just mean no paying extra subscriptions to specifically WoW. Be kind of a weird image to have owning Elder Scrolls Online that doesn't cost extra to play but WoW has to be?

I'm pretty sure ESO originally released with no required subscription. Quite different from WoW.

Yeah but they're both open world MMOs getting frequent updates that'll both be owned by the same company soon. It would be weird having one with no subscriptions, the other still being $80 for 6 flippin months (if I'm reading this right)? I don't think many would go for the latter after paying for Live if the goal is getting more players to journey Azeroth.

But your statement about backwards compat is factually untrue. A quick google search shows they added over seventy tiles only two months ago.

Exactly "two months ago" and then its licenses stopping any more being added.

I'm not sure what you are talking about......
We should have backward compatible at all times...and we do completely with Xbox One to Xbox Series S/X.

But we can't go back in time......they decided 10 years ago (more than that)....to not bother with BC....but at least they are making efforts to bring games back through emulation. Which my understanding requires work for each game.

Not including the fact that publishers are the ones that give the OK and I would assume some Xbox 360 games are much more complicated to emulate when it's tied into the 360 network infrastructure (for instance Dead Space 3 requires a fair amount of work by the user to get running due to the whole EA Online Pass system).

I wish there was more (Condemned 2 is something I would love to have)...but it is what it is. Why don't you try to play Wii and Wii U games on the Switch, oh wait you can't. What about PS3 games on the PS5? I'm pretty sure you cannot. Even PS4 games, not all of them are BC with PS5.

I hope Microsoft buys Nintendo. I want Shin Megami Tensei and Bayonetta.

I'm really interested on seeing what MS will do with Blizzard...I have been reading reports that Activision wanted Blizzard to produce COD type numbers on all their games....

Which probably mean no more Starcraft games...no more RTS games.....

So if Microsoft can get them to start produce new games in their old franchises.....I think that would be a good thing. Hell, maybe even a new IP.

It's kind of nuts that MS has the majority of shooters (Wolfenstein, COD, Halo, Doom, Quake), a good amount of western style RPGs and now old schoool RTS franchises haha...kinda crazy.

It's especially annoying they make some Quake titles backward compatible but still no Quake 4 despite Xbox owning that.

I wouldn't say never. Xbox does have two Halo Wars games under their belt plus a rereleased definitive edition so they may take a crack at Starcraft RTS or maybe (and hopefully too) make a first person/third person shooter Starcraft happen since Blizzard on their own would announce such projects before cancelling 'em for BS reasons.

MS definitely has interest in RTS games, they produced Age of Empires 4, after all. Remember they see the PC as an important part of game pass. So getting a new Starcraft game out, even if it's exclusive for PC, may be something they're interested in.

But man, yesterday's acquisition is so huge. There are so many aspects. Like the first thing most will consider is COD, and if that will become Xbox exclusive (almost definitely will, imo) but other things are also really crazy to think about. Like the fact that MS will now own 2 of the top 4 MMO's on the planet, in WoW and ESO. Also this probably means D4 will probably be an Xbox console exclusive.

This could also be what finally makes Blizzard do a console port of WoW. It's long been rumored but has never come to fruition, but with how FF14 is a playstation console exclusive, I could totally see MS pushing for an Xbox version of WoW to be their answer to that. It could also be good news for Blizzard as a whole, their games lately have not been great. Particularly WoW - two expansion in a row that have been seen as failures. MS could inject new life into that game somehow. Or even do something like push for WoW 2.

You also have to wonder how Sony will respond. They're likely going to lose COD games on their platform, they will NEED something to replace them. Maybe we'll see new Killzone games as Sony's attempt to replace COD, or Resistence. Or m aybe they'll attempt to purchase Bungie or something.

But huge ramifications for this purchase. Also sounds like Kotick is out once the deal is through.

oh, something else I wondered about. What will happen with Battle.net launcher? MS now has two PC marketplaces. Battlenet may get rolled into their windows store that nobody uses, or they could use Bnet and put all of their games on there and kinda make it their new PC gaming marketplace for all of their games. Or they could leave it as is.

Yeah Sony sure didn't had to make anymore Killzone or Resistance ever since taking a cut of the profits from partnerships with Call of Duty. Not even so much as a rerelease of a Resistance Trilogy but now that's where they might have to go.

How big is Guerrilla Games? Big enough to make Horizon Zero Dawn and a full-fledged shooter? No idea....

Resistance? Insomniac is now making Marvel games....so can they take on another shooter?

But the problem is that Killzone and Resistance are not huge franchises...and have been forgotten about.....so will it make a dent? Probably not.....

I wasn't even thinking about Battle.net......I have to assume it will all be merged into Xbox Live....

The thing is.....Microsoft could probably keep on buying other studios/publishers if they want too...they have the cash.

The funny thing is that....because Activision has been soo much shit...I cannot see this purchase being worst than what it currently is.....it seems MS is willing to let developers work on things....and having that many resources could do wonders for these firms...

What would fans want from Blizzard? What if Warcraft 3 gets a legit sequel (kind of like what MS did with the excellent Age of Empires 4...what about another Starcraft (oh yeah) and as Nemesis X....wouldn't it be nuts if they resurrect Starcraft: Ghosts...that would totally get people on board.

I hope they limit CoD games by at least 2 years and let the other firms start making their own damn games. Raven Software could take another hack at Hexan...haha....let MS knock out all the old early 90s shooter IPs.

And I don't think Microsoft is going to make any changes to how the publish on PC. Game Pass, Windows Store, Steam and then I guess Battlenet...but I think this might be beneficial for gamers if they start releasing CoD on Steam again....same with Blizzard titles, which I think they will.

Be quite the feat and a game I'd get Day 1.

They were rumours that N64 Goldeneye will be hitting Xbox this year....something resembling Starcraft: Ghost could be possible.

Maybe The Coalition team could take a stab it after they release I assume in production Gears 6.

I wonder what they will do with Guitar Hero (if anything) and Tony Hawk (could be a good live service game where levels are free).

I'm just interested on seeing what they do and I ****ing hope they think outside of the box and do something different than just pump out COD.

Sony owns both IP's, so they could give them to other developers. In fact the director of Days Gone recently said that one of the things he pitched to Sony was to allow his studio to make a new Resistance game, but they said no. Now they might have some incentive to do that.

It's been rumored for a while that Guerilla is making a new Killzone anyways, since they opened a second studio a while back and haven't announced anything for it. We'll see.

I too hope they cease having COD being a yearly release.

I guess we will see...
Though I'm still annoyed Sony stopped a sequel for Days Gone....
I know it was semi-generic and etc...but I really enjoyed that game.

It played like an open world but the controls felt more "simulation" than other open worlds and I took to it. It also felt more survival-ish without being super obtuse like most survival games.

And while zombie games are always around, the horde mechanic was legit amazing, and was always terrifying no matter how strong you were. The dedicated horde areas were extremely fun to tackle.

I felt like the sequel could of been something special and it sucks we will never see it.

Sony bought Bungie now it looks like, and apparently there are other acquisitions incoming.

Shouldve known this would happen in response to the ActiBlizz buyout, but whoever buys things, someone else loses. Never really got into Destiny in the case of Bungie, but still.

Here's the rub, Kristen Stewart has to replace mum's role

Strange acquisition in that Bungie is insisting that everything they make will continue to be multiplatform. Will be interesting to see if that holds true.

I expect at the very least timed exclusive content for Destiny 2 at some point in the future.

So they paid 3.6 billion dollars....for 1 studio and 1 IP. Destiny is pretty large though...

MS paid 7.5 billion for 5+ studios, a fair amount of new IP and classic IP.

So I guess MS Bethesda might of been a steal.....
