Because I don't think the XBOX One is a bad idea?

And the only issue with XBOX One is that MS did a really shitty job announcing it.

But I still don't get why people have an issue with TV portion of the console. It's not like it doesn't play games.

Where are those games? Where's all the marketing for all the cool shit the Xbox One is going to do for games and for gamers? Oh right, nowhere. E3? E3 isn't here yet, so no one cares about E3.

People don't buy Xbox's so that they can watch Football. You know who buys Xbox's? Gamers. You know who watched that conference? Gamers. So when your primary demographic is gamers, and you conference doesn't show a single thing that benefits gamers, it only makes sense that you'll hear a lot of negative backlash from... gamers.

Oh, I can watch NFL, Netflix and TV on my Xbox? Cool, I can do that on my tablet, laptop, PC and TV already. But what about... the games?

Not being able to trade disks around with your friends, and the console basically being a 500 dollar paper weight if it doesn't get to connect to the internet at least once a day, is just shit icing on the ass flavored cake.

Okay, but overall you are positive on the whole xbox thing?

Oh, absolutely.

First day purchase.

How so? At least they showed the console unlike Nintendo with the wiiu and sony with the ps4 ...

Also "One"'s the hot topic over ps4 now. All I keep hearing and reading about is the "One". A nice announcement strategy i'd say. Doing it right on the heels of e3. Keeping the console fresh in the minds and just long enough (2 weeks from this sat.) to lead into blowin 'em away at e3 when they pull out all the stops.

But if you meant the presentation, I think they did fine. t'wasn't sloppy or anything. Yeah I wanted them to show more gameplay footage but it's ok.

I guess the Wii was the most successful console of this generation because of the gamers?

XBOX One will have games. You can trade disks with your friends and while the Internet thing is kind of annoying, well, I guess you are posting on this forum from a friends house?

I don't know how the NFL works on XBOX One but if it involves Sunday ticket and it's the only place to get outside of DirectTV cable users, that's a huge sell. A massive sell.

Basically, get over it. Consoles are becoming multimedia machines. It's going to happen. Deal with it. Don't buy one. Buy a PS4 instead but oh wait, PS4 will do the same thing the XBOX One does.

My deal with the connectivity is that there really should be no ****ing reason for it.

Funny how they're becoming multimedia machines when i only use them to play games only and maybe stick in a Blu-ray with the PS3.

Um. Yeah. Yeah it was. Like, it's a universally accepted fact that the Wii basically "won" the generation's console war, and the fact that it sold 40 million units more than the second place contender, the 360, is all the proof you need. ermm

The rest of your post is basically a giant "no u!", which didn't actually address anything I said, so I guess my earlier prediction that you're just being a hipster contrarian for the sake of being one was correct. I mean, "deal with it"? Really? We're on a discussion board bro. You deal with it. lol

The reason for that is that they already have you. Now they want the rest of the population, that's not gamers.

It's not like any of the consoles are a particular success just going for "gamers".

I think what he meant to say is that the Wii was the most popular console, but not because of "gamers" but because of people who only casually played it.

In other news, here's a good podcast on the state of the next generation consoles with John Siracusa:

Why can't consoles do both? For gamers and non-gamers who might be interested in other features? (if they are done well).

I guess people assumed that because of the reveal, MS will not have games?

But let's say the position they are going for. Multimedia use and getting rid of games....who cares! Just buy a PS4.

What I am trying to say is that consoles are trying to do both because they think that way they can make more (or some) money. So I agree with you. We'll see more of what the PS3 has planned, but perhaps they are gambling on getting a larger chunk of the gaming market by catering exclusively to them. Or they'll talk about TV at E3...whichever.

Sorry, I quoted you instead of quoting Kazenji. I know you are agreeing with me.

Sony catered to the gaming crowd almost exclusively during the conference because of how badly they got spanked in the beginning of the last console war. After years of the PS3 having a reputation for being non-developer friendly, they wanted to come out of the gate this time promoting the notion that they're very developer friendly and care primarily about the gaming experience.

So maybe they'll talk about TV at E3, or maybe TV isn't a big deal to them because they know only a single country in the world watches the NFL and everyone else already has Netflix and a cable box.

Considering that the Wii openly didn't give a shit about multi-media and only focused on playing games (albeit, mostly lousy ones), I'd say that the Wii's success proves my point more than his. People had to choose between a video game player/blu-ray device or a video game player, and they chose the latter.

MS reveal was about the machine and I don't think MS really cares what Sony does.

This current generation has shown that you can have viable consoles. MS went after the non-gaming crowd as well as keeping gamers around too. Wouldn't you do that if you were designing a system?

Also, you might not know but TV ratings for the NFL are high, extremely high. Getting some of that market is a very good idea.

And maybe it's going to work out for him. But overall console gaming is a shitty and comparatively small business to be in, so it makes sense why all of them at some time tried to branch out.

And Sony's communication being gamer focussed does not mean that it will be the best console for gamers when they actually come out.
