My main problem with gaming PCs is that I just really, really hate Windows...

Steam supports Lynux now 131

Basically. I may be done with consoles. My computer is already 3 years ahead of the next generation that's coming out.

Which parts do you have and when did you build it? I only ask because I built mine last month.

Steam might support Linux but games still need to be supported.

I am aware. But most developers don't.

I do get Mac games from Steam sometimes, but not a great selection either. The Humble Indie Bundle is cross platform though, that makes me happy.

Yeah I know. Was just saiyin'. My cousin switched to Lynux and is now waging war against developers lol.

Windows 7 is fine. Just don't work with Windows 8. **** that POS.

No! NO!

Good news though, Crusader Kings 2 sale on Steam right now 😊

rofl-cakes.

And we all know the PS4 and One will sell like iPhones. Shame, really. Market needs to stop being so sheepish.

Well, they won't be selling like iPhones, that would be pretty impressive.

I have a hard time believe that either of the consoles we saw will outsell their predecessor over their lifespan.

I can't see it happening unless MS gets the non-gaming but want multimedia crowd then I could see it outselling the 360 by a crazy margin.

I imagine the multimedia crowd would already have everything they need in their Smart TVs and computers. Outsell the 360 you say? Bullshit.

I didn't say it will. I just said it could if people buy it for multimedia purposes.

And you be surprised, the majority of people are not tech savvy, have their computers hooked up to their TV's through a network and have Smart TV's.

Hmm, I don't think so. Almost no one uses Smart TV features. And a significant amount of people connecting a computer to their TV...that's not happening.

I also don't see what the One is bringing to the table that could in any way disrupt the way people watch TV though.

From what I read from peeps that are interested in the TV aspect is that it will be one device to stream, watch cable, play games and watch movies without the need of 3 separate devices. Also, I don't know if its true or not, the XBOX One can also turn on and off your TV so you only need one remote (which then would be your phone or tablet) to do everything you need to do.

Also, the guide might be more user friendly and I suspect the XBOX One can act as a PVR as well.

Again, I don't know for sure. I haven't seen it in action and the reveal didn't really get into the everything.

what spec you got?

Well hell, I didn't expect to get called out. Three years past next-gen consoles was embellishment, and my computer is almost two years old now (not all parts, but most). But it's good.

i7 processor, 3.80GHz
A 600GB HD that runs at 10K rpms (as opposed to the standard 7,200)
8GB RAM
...I'd have to dig a bit more on my video card. I honestly forget, but it's similar in relative quality to the specs above. And my board can handle more RAM, but I haven't needed that much for anything and barely use my 8GB now, so there's been no need to upgrade.

...so, fairly comparable. I know the XBox One comes with 8GB RAM and 500GB HD. And the processor is an 8-core, so it's actually probably a small step up from mine. But I don't know the other specs. I was kinda just guessing, since high-end computers have always tended to be 2-3 years ahead of consoles. The fact that my rig was available 2 years ago for a reasonable price (and probably 4 years ago for a higher price), and will be closer to 3 years old by the time One launches, kinda makes my point though. There are experiences the console can bring that computers have a hard time emulating, but the tech potential has always been >>> on self-built desktops.

AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series graphics card. 2GB RAM, 256-bit, circa 900MHz Core Clock. I'll be honest and say I'm not sure what some of that translates to in gaming terms, I can build my own rig but I'm not that much of a tech-head with this stuff. But I googled the specs and wanted to include it for completion's sake on the post above.

I'm probably not going to get it. I'm really not all that excited or impressed, I just wanted to make sure that if I did decide I wanted it, I could get it.

The type of system and GPU RAM are important, too. DDR3 and DDR5 also do not come in the same flavors. What is the clock speed of your system RAM? Then what is the response time?

If you had this memory, we might be talking serious business:

But that memory has some really high latency (relatively).

I don't think anyone ITT is a Nintendo fan.
