Current Gen Console Discussions (PS5, Xbox Series X, Switch (Pro?) OFFICIAL THREAD

Good on MS. I knew they'd walk back some of this, but I wasn't sure they'd outright remove all of it. Nice to see them actually listening.

Now they just need to make it so that the kinect isn't a requirement and I'll consider buying an Xbox One. The PS4 being 100 dollars cheaper is still a pretty big deal.

The Kinect really doesn't bother me. The only thing that I disliked about the Xbox1 has been taken care of. I wish the price was a little lower but the Xbox satisfied me with this full DRM removal.

Well the Kinect is the reason the price is higher.

I don't see Kinect being a big deal.

It's all about games. One issue I could see is because it's not required to be online, some of the "cloud" features might make games be required to have a Internet connection.

But seriously, holy shit. I still don't think price is a big factor. It's about games.

Saving 100 bucks is always nice guy.

But yeah games are what sell a console. Now it will become exclusives vs exclusives more or less. Granted Sony has a lead because it didn't take as long to do the right thing but details.

Not sure how to feel about this honestly. I never had any intention of getting the Xbone and was just enjoying the drama. Seeing Microsoft actually grow up is somewhat heartwarming but honestly they're just doing it because the pre-order sales must have blown ass.

Am kinda in the same boat now. Not entirely sure how to feel about this either... At the moment though, I don't think even Killer Instinct or whatever else I might've wanted is worth paying $100 more for than a PS4.

I'm not getting an Xbone at launch. No Halo makes it a no no. 100 extra bucks for a device I couldn't care less about is another no no. No family shared games at launch is another no no.

Will go for PS4 and then buy a Xbone when Halo comes out. This announcement just made it plausible for me get an xbox. Where as before i just couldn't bring myself to even think about it.

Yeah, I guess getting a One eventually when there's more reason to is fair enough, all things considered. If I get that too though... wonder how I'm gonna make room in the house for everything this time.

Pretty sure that the family sharing thing is completely dead with today's announced changes.

So we have the Xbox, the Xbox 360, and now the Xbox One. And after today people are calling the Xbox One the Xbox 180 which makes it sound like it should come between the original and the 360. I'm amused either way.

Microsoft To Reverse Xbox One Policies After Fan Revolt..

Microsoft has announced today that they’ve listened to player feedback, and are lifting two of the most important restrictions of the console. Here they are, pulled straight from Microsoft’s blog. The link may be not working, but rest assured the post was live at one point.

- An internet connection will not be required to play offline Xbox One games.

- Trade-in, lend, resell, gift, and rent disc based games just like you do today.

Holy Cannolis. Oh well. That's crazy.

Oh. Forgot this ...

The difference is, in the Naruto thread, Kishimoto always takes your side specifically against my position if we disagree about something. Kishimoto is a dadudemon troll. uhuh

It gave me a warm fuzzy, actually. Originally, I had 4 complaints: the check-in crap, the game sharing and selling restrictions, the Live account bans ruining your library of games, and the gold membership being required for many apps and online games. They got rid of all but the last one.

So what can I possibly complain about, now? I should def buy the new Xbox One. 🙂

It's still 100 dollars more expensive than the PS4.

Sh*t just got real!

I wasn't expecting this so soon, but thankfully they came to their senses, surely the lower pre-orders had a big hand on this. Good to know people can still vote with their wallets.

My inner fanboy would have loved for this to happen a year from now seeing has it would have pretty much doomed them, but now that the field has been leveled somewhat, I'm confident only innovation will decide next gen, and that can only be good for consumers.

The Kinect thing is annoying though. it's basically the reason is more expensive and the privacy issues are terrifiying.

Before, not even if I wanted an Xbone I could have bought one. The Region lock-up would not have let me (all other issues didn't affect me much, It was more a principle thing), but now that the Xbone80 is here, I could get one down the line

I still getting a PS4 first.

EDIT: And the 10 person share thing is gone.

With PS3, you could share your games with up to 5 people, then they reduce that to 2.

hopefully, though pretty much unlikely, the PS4 can be share with 5 again.

Steam seems to be doing it, so why not dream...

My wife just started working and I got a new job that pays a lot more.

Spoiler:
But my poor ass will still wait until a price drop before buying the XBone.

This is the best ****ing thing I've ever heard since the PS4 announcement. As proud as I am of Microsoft finally doing the right thing, I'm still getting Sony's console. Should the price ever go down sometime next year, I may consider getting the Xbox One but until then, I'm gonna play some inFamous and Knack with a side of Destiny.

I'm still pretty much boned cuz of the Kinect thing (gf won't let me put that thing anywhere near the living room even tho MS "promised" that you can "switch it off" but I gotta give props to MS for their policy reversals. Tho, it makes it look like pre-order-wise they musta taken a horrible beating to reverse their policies this quickly. That or perhaps they took the risk of trying to introduce their DRMs during E3 to test market it and had a "fallback" just in case they didn't get the preorders they expected or in case Sony didn't follow suit.

What worries me is the fact that they might slowly reintroduce restrictive DRMs in the future once they've gotten their machines in ppl's homes given that it's been their intention all along. Especially since I've known EA (the company that MS seems to be buddying up with) to be very good with the bait and switch. DRMs won't really affect me but it's more of a principle thing.

Agreed.

Still won't buy it with the Kinect requirement.
