This is the best ****ing thing I've ever heard since the PS4 announcement. As proud as I am of Microsoft finally doing the right thing, I'm still getting Sony's console. Should the price ever go down sometime next year, I may consider getting the Xbox One but until then, I'm gonna play some inFamous and Knack with a side of Destiny.
Knack. Seriously ...
Even then, piracy would still be prevalent and I feel like there really isn't much they can do about it. If ppl wanna steal your program, they'll do it and not all the DRMs or copy protection or always on internet check-in or online-only multiplayer feature will be able to do anything about it.
Best thing for them to do is simply lower the prices of games to competitive levels by simply avoiding a publisher altogether and simply sell games online and make online purchasing easier for those w/o a credit card. That while maintaining a good relationship with their player base and offering solid value for legal purchases.

There is effective DRM, to be fair. Blizzard has made it very difficult to pirate their games with the requirement to always be connected to battle.net, for instance. It'll always exist, but when purchasing games become fully digital that will go a long way in lessening it.
You'd be surprised how many pirated Diablo 3, WoW and Starcraft games are where I live. 😛
Basically, ppl play hacked copies of WoW or Diablo 3 offline or in contained LAN servers.
Starcraft is just simply pirated for the single player game and played in LAN cafes for multiplayer.
Thing is, developers need to understand that their price positioning is where piracy is beating them in. A lot of ppl play games "casually" and do not really care much for the competitive atmosphere of a large multiplayer arena. And the fact that pirated copies here are priced around 2-3 dollars per in a part of the world where most ppl make 200-400 USD a month makes it an almost a no brainer decision on w/c product ppl would buy.

As I said, it's possible. There will always be thieves. But it's much more difficult than it is to pirate games that don't have such DRM.
What I'm saying is that difficulty isn't an issue, tho.
Buying pirated games is easy. Even easier than buying original games as pirated games require no online registration (thus requiring no internet connection) and can be found just about anywhere (there are literally 30 stores that sell pirated copies for every 1 store that sells originals here). There is really little "difficulty barrier" on the buyer-side.
The "difficulty barrier" is dealt with by the pirates themselves. And they seem to be extremely resourceful at cracking any and all kinds of DRM or copy protection. It's a losing battle and devs should just simply abandon DRM alltrogether, IMO and focus more on lowering costs (one example is by doing away with publishers and getting rid of physical distribution as well as lowering marketing costs).

Because of the Kinect. The ps4'd be about just as much if the "eye" was included ..
around $50 more, and no, it's not necessary, and certainly not wanted

Knack. Seriously ...
I wonder what if Knack were a M$ exclusive, how hard you would be riding that sh*t...

The used games issue will eventually solve itself when digital purchases are the only way to buy games, which I think will happen within 10 years. The whole thing will be a non issue at that point. Companies will just have to wait it out till then.
And then what would the next industry boogieman be?
Piracy barely scratches it, used games don't matter, so what are they gonna blame it on? game sharing between profiles on the same console
Greed kills the industry...
