Current Gen Console Discussions (PS5, Xbox Series X, Switch (Pro?) OFFICIAL THREAD

I'm just curious as to what the rest of the KMC community feels, but for me this new generation is extremely underwhelming. None of the consoles seem at all innovative or impressive, all the games and exclusives hold almost no interest for me.

This will be the first console-generation in a long time where I will not be buying any of the consoles for some time (of course the lack of backwards compatability is the biggest reason for this), and the odd thing is is that this is the consensus with the most of my friends.

So I'm wondering, is this just us (which it could be since we're all in the development stage of life, getting married, houses, children etc that impact our interest in gaming in general) or a general feeling for more of the community?

The 3DS is still awesome, so I think it's just you being fuddy duddy.

I think the issue is that this generation doesn't show a complete leap in the graphic departments.

NES - SNES = 8 bit to 16bit
SNES - N64 = 3d graphics
N64 - GC = much better 3D graphics
GC - 360 = HD
360 - XB1 = better HD

But I don't know what you mean by innovating. XB1 does some pretty cool stuff that wasn't on the previous generations. Same with PS4.

This generation of consoles leaves me flaccid too. The biggest jump from last-gen to current gen was the standardization of online play. Consoles that were designed from the ground up for online features was huge- quite possibly one of the biggest evolutionary jumps in gaming history. You also had the Wii's controls which, while ultimate gimmicky, were very promising.

By comparison, this gen is basically just the systems from last-gen but with slightly superior graphics and some more social features no one gives a phuck about. "Oh ur google+ friends know what game ur playin!" "Oh u can watch tv on ur xbox oh!" Meh.

The systems will still sell out of course. I imagine that little kids who just want the new shiny thing, and mid-life crisis 30+ year olds who are addicted to new gadgets, will be the main customer base initially.

I think it's time for a new generation. The graphics might be slightly better but you will see a big difference. Having 60 FPS, better AA will make a difference on how games look.

But you are right that it's not a huge leap forward this generation like it was previously

Just installed my second gtx 680 and i'm lovin it..

Just play the bf4 beta yesterday with it.

I'm ready for the next gen ..

Yup.

I have a hard on since yesterday with it..

Experimenting and running benchmarks with it and the pc games I have.

Games like Crysis 3, bioshock 3, farcry 3, bf 3-4, Max Payne, and more. I get at least 60 fps on all of them on a 1080p 120hz monitor.

I'm so loving it. Can't wait for the next gen of games coming that my pc will eat for breakfast on all high settings.

First up. Batman Origins. Then Ghosts..

Is the new Call of Duty using the same old engine as all the previous CoD games?

According to wiki, it is.

Probably a heavily modified version of the engine.

Nice. Are you sure you needed it though? What size was your original 680?

Probably not.

I have a 670 and all those games he mentions I can play at the settings he has.

In reality, having two vid cards that are powerful is more meant for much higher resolutions than 1080P.

yeah, That's why I was wondering.

In two years time, a single GPU card will outclass both of them so it's probably better to get one card and buy a new one 2 years from now.

I've been considering going with a GTX 760 2GB. it's a good, top level card, and with how games rarely need more than a gig, or even a gig and a half, I think i'd be good for a while.

I read that BF4 recommended specs is 2GB.

I'd heard that, but to be fair that game is ****ing beautiful. I mean, real time skyscraper destruction? Wtf...

Yeah, before my new computer, I played BF3 on medium setttings and it still looked very good.

It's not like before where medium settings was brutal compared to high, or ultra. These days, it seems like PC games on medium look just as good as high/ultra but without the subtle visuals.

Well, for those unaware of Capcom's recent financial crisis, seems we'll be having a lot less of them next gen, as they don't even have the resources/budget for a next-gen fighter now.

If they hadn't treated fans/customers the way they have this whole past gen, I would feel sorry for them, but, I guess they're getting their due karma now.

👆

The sad part is that, according to them this is spurring them to increase DLC ****ery. Talk about just not getting it.
