Hardcore fans generally seem to enjoy the movie.
Hardcore fans of the Reeve movies and people who have a narrow, uninformed view of who Superman is, are (generally) the people who hate it.
Also, people on other boards that I lurk upon have also been bitching about how this isn't a Superman movie etc. etc.
Heh.
The ending twist served its purpose.

I thought the movie was alright. The way superman flew and the fight scenes made me think I was watching Hancock II.I thought Russell Crowe, was excellent. However, my biggest disappointment was the lack of story and character development. The movie seemed like it had the potential to be the next great superman series but ultimately failed.
I am not sure I get the lack of a story part. Did we watch the same movie?

Here is one example, I understand why Zod wanted superman, however why did he need earth since they had the ability to change any planet to fit there atmosphere. The conflict seemed force to make a battle between superman and Zod and his forces.
I felt they tried to make you feel emotional for superman and his situation but it did not come across well. I felt more emotion in the one line quote made in the original superman movie (Christopher Reeve), “All those things I can do. All those powers. And I couldn't even save him.”, then I did in all the film shots of superman’s past displayed in the latest film.
It was a good action picture, not my favorite superman picture. I did feel it had the ability to be one if not the best but failed to do so.
Probably because Zod wasn't as good as the movie made him look. They were searching for the codex. The kryptonian scientist revealed it was in Kal-El's blood and that they did not need him alive to retrieve it. Kal was now an enemy and was allied with the humans. That is when Zod started the world engine planning to kill Kal-El and give himself a new planet in one move.
Would've been smarter to terraform any planet on the solar system, I give you that.

Zack, I am curious to know where this superman ranks in your opinion amongst the other superman movies.

Go and tell that to the likes of Mark Waid. You don't get a more hardcore Superman fan than one of his major writers.
Sure, because that guy is completely unbiased.
Originally posted by TheGodKillerokay, but I'd like to know how many of those people fit into that category of not actually knowing very much about the character.

Also, i didn't say EVERY hardcore fan like/loved the movie, i intentionally used the word "general" so this would be avoided.
