Edit - Please be as verbose/descriptive as possible. I promise not to argue. I just haven't had this discussion, in depth, with any Star Wars fans and I am wanting to mature/change my opinions.

I prefer to have the Sith come to power but in the process to see highly skilled combatants thrown in the mix as well. One problem I always had with Star Wars is there was never a great villain IMO. I did like Palpatine the best of the films and he stood out but not in the manner in which others have in other films. I also hated that they killed off Maul. I know we didn't get to see his personality fleshed out more so but he had a really cool look and an interesting warrior type mentality with a double edged saber.

I look to see it differently at least and not by someone being a master politician and manipulating everyone behind the scenes ala Palpatine. I want a Sith to take it by force. I always prefer the characters who take what they want by force. As long as the story is compelling and the new Sith and Jedi are interesting and original I am down.

I don't want Benedict to be the main new villain. I love him as an actor and feel he'd do a great job I like him being Khan from Star Trek and want a different actor to portray the new Star Wars main villain.

This is awesome news! as a Disney and SW fan, i'm very happy that Disney is owning SW, Lucasfilm and Indiana Jones.

I'm glad Lucas is retiring after all the shit he has been put over the years for his "improving" of the OT, forgetting his promise to release the unaltered versions on BD, the prequels, Indy 4 etc. and him watching People vs. George Lucas plus the last production of his flopped big time. I guess the joke is on him and i'm glad he sold it to Disney as he had a friendship with that company for many years as they made those awesome SW and Indy attractions at the parks plus Captain EO.

Hell they hired a good writer and a fine director who are fans of the old school trilogy and should be a worthy follow to the OT. Plus soon we'll get the unscrewed with editions of the OT soon now that Lucas is out of the picture.

Disney did wonders with the stuff they bought like Pixar, Marvel, Ghibli and The Muppets and now with Sw and Indy will be great and restore the name of SW to people after the PT left a bad taste in some mouths.

I don't care as long as the the story is explosive.

Obviously we will get Force using, Lightsaber wielding villains. Let's face it, it's Star Wars, and that's what people want/expect.

Although I'd personally prefer if they were Dark Jedi that didn't call themselves "Sith", the names really are not important in the big scheme of things.

Anakin Skywalker destroyed Sidious and the Rule of Two. That's enough for fulfilling the "prophecy," which never really was explained much anyway.

But I agree those titles are awful. Right after "Return of the Jedi," to have "Rise of the Jedi," or "Return of the Sith," is just horrible and awfully unimaginative. BUt again the title isn't going to make or break the movie for me.

Just watch the Clone Wars dude.

I'm personally more excited for SW Animation than I am for any of the Episode 7 news. Is that just me?

i don't like the animation stuff at all with regards to Star Wars.

Story story story... that's all we need. We didn't get it in a very satisfying way in the PT. So that's all I want for VII. I'd like to see SW progress... not rehash.

I'm not that impressed with his screenplays. I don't think he is the right choice for VII, anyway.

A) If it's better than Ep1, I'll at least be happy.

B) If it's better than Ep2 and 3, I'll get a little wet.

C) If it's on par with Ep5, I'll cream my shorts.

D) If it's better than Ep5, I'll have multiple explosive orgasms.

Personally, I think we're guaranteed at least an A); likely a B).

No? Even thought he wrote Toy Story 3 and won an academy award for screenwriting it, the last time?

And J.J. has nothing on Ardnt's writing. J.J. is m. night with big fake boobs..

Arndt wrote the screenplays for Little Miss Sunshine and Toy Story 3. That's just a huge plus right there. And for Oblivion, so he's got a grasp of sci-fi action/adventure. And co-wrote Brave, so he knows how to write Scottish people. His would have been a good screenplay.

But Lawrence Kasdan wrote ESB, RotJ, and Raiders. So suck it, Arndt.

I don't want a Star Wars movie like Toy Story 3 or Little Miss Sunshine.

No thank you, very much. 😐

Brave was forgettable, imo. Oblivion as a tad boring.

I am not saying I don't enjoy his films: they are enjoyable. But they are not...they don't have that je ne sais quoi that some of the classic, timeless, movies have.

It just shows that the man is capable of writing a very good screenplay. Whether he can translate to a different genre and franchise is still in question, but the man has two very solid scripts to his resume. And adding some fresh outsider's blood to a tremendously stale and boring franchise isn't a bad idea.

You're welcome for that phrase.

Whatever the Star Wars sequels will be, "classic" and "timeless" will likely not be descriptors. They're going to be but a single part of the modern nerd/geek sci-fi/superhero era of film, and for that they won't stand out too much, both visually and thematically. But that's okay so long as it's a good piece of entertainment--diehard fan loyalty to the franchise aside. Toy Story 3 isn't a classic, but it's still a damn good movie, and that kind of description is what I would love to say about the ST.

But w/e, Arndt's out, and the writer of an actual timeless classic is in.

I believe the news was he was dropped (or he dropped). That's good news, imo. In order to write Star Wars, you need to be a massive massive Sci-Fi geek. His movies don't come off as being remotely close to that.

I used it because you. 😮 😮

That's probably all true...you jerk. 🙁

But I really really hope it is not.

I thought the prequels were timeless and classics.

True.

Yeah but that was like 30 years ago. Lucas did the script for the original Star Wars. And probably had a writing hand in most of the Indiana Jones films.
