thanks I will look for the film

I was initially hyped when he was cast, as he's a very good actor and is the best actor-to-character match up here. But the Joker snippets I've seen and some of the stories I read make me question that.
I'm hoping Ayer pulls through with yet another good film. Do like several of his.

You'd think Zack Snyder has incriminating photos at home, the way they've been letting him run with this. He's been given literal run of Warners and their projects ever since 300. Some financial disappointments and flops in there, and no critical acclaim for the most part. Man Of Steel was a pretty successful reboot, yes, but they messed with the backstage formula by not keeping Christopher Nolan around.
Batman v. Superman - the first live action meeting ever of these two icons - never mind the reviews. It's going to fall several hundreds of millions short of what it should have grossed. That should be of most concern to Warners & DC, if they don't care about critical or fan respect.

How much do you think it should have made and why?

In the right hands, this should have exceeded any of the Dark Knight grosses and been at least a peer to Iron Man 3's box office, if not near Avengers.
(Of course, Avengers was a smash hit beyond even what fans expected - it grossed almost twice what I thought it was going to gross. That's what the right hands can do. It was like the perfect storm that also elevated The Dark Knight to levels never seen in comic related films.)

To exceed TDK, it would have done well over Avengers box office. I don't see that happening. Superman hasn't done anything close to that box office wise that would make me believe BVS would make close to that. 1 billion was where it should have been, imo. Not 1.6.

Originally posted by Zack MWe haven't seen yet what a truly great Superman movie can do at the modern box office. Sure MoS pulled decent numbers, made a good profit and some ppl really liked it but had it been truly epic universally beloved generation-defining and knocked out of the fuking park there's no telling what the box office potential could've been. We saw with the first Iron Man how a single movie can kickstart the most profitable and culturally impactful franchise since star wars and indiana jones.
MOS had good numbers for a reboot. Much more than his past numbers and sold quite well on home video. Most people liked that.
^ You can say that about almost any superhero franchise though. That if it was Truly Epic it would have knocked the box office to new levels.
The numbers show MOS had an overall positive response. But you can't blame them for not making the next Avengers, TDK or Spider-Man 2 ( the least grossing of the original Ramai trilogy believe it or not).
And btw First Class was an Epic reboot, best of the franchise IMO, yet was the lowest grossing X-Men film (except for X1 like 12 years earlier). So Reboots can be tricky.

That's what I thought as well. But we all forget that Superman Returns actually flopped. Batman Begins didn't exactly knock it out of the park box office wise either, and that was another Truly Epic reboot.
So again rebooting characters can be tricky.
Originally posted by Darth ThorWhat Zack is saying though is that because in the past Superman movies haven't destroyed at the box office, that should then be taken as a precedent for all future Superman movies and those shouldn't be expected to do well either. That's flawed logic because imo all the past Superman flicks have been mediocre to shitty. If a Superman trilogy was to be treated with the same care and respect as the dark knight trilogy, the studio could be drowning in shitloads of cash. Superman should be just as profitable and relevant if not more so than any other major franchise.

We're all going by what if's though. You can say Superman SHOULD make a billion, but I can say the opposite, too. Superman is the most well known character of all time, but that doesn't always translate into box office success. Most, if not ALL my friends aren't into Superman. That's just the way it is. However, after MOS came out, they started to like him more.

MoS accomplished no such feat for BvS, it needed batman and wonderwoman to help build excitement...

Not necessarily. We never got to see a traditional sequel for MOS. Snyder did say BVS was the sequel, but in terms of Superman being in his own movie and whatnot. Then again, there will be a traditional sequel for him in the near future, so we can actually judge then.
