Olli was just about done flicking through channels and exploring Matt's impressive video game collection. He was again bored. Out of his mind. He didn't know what to do about it. He figured Matt or Red X or Athena or someone had go come get the super car from outside and collect Matt's things but who knows when that would be.
All of a sudden, he got pissed. Why was he bored? Why was he acting like everything had changed when almost nothing did? Sure, he met some kids with powers. He even helped them out once. That was new. But other than that, what else changed.
He was still the same Oliver Sabel who was a secretary at Star Labs. He still lived with his parents. He still liked the same things. He still had the same friends. He was still the same guy he was before yesterday. So why did he feel so strange? So restless? Like something could happen at any moment and he would welcome it?
"ARGH! This is crazy," he said to himself as he heffed himself off the couch. He needed go get this placed cleaned before his parents got home. He packed Matt's games and equipment back into his bag but left the snacks out. He wasn't getting those back. He sat the bag on the side of the couch and went to get the snacks he himself brought out.
As he limped into the kitchen, he wasn't paying any attention to what he was doing as he sat all the snacks on the table. His mom's favorite China bowl, that she believed will a real Chinese artifact but filled it with fruit anyways, was knocked off the table when he sat all the snacks down. Not even thinking, Olli reached for the bowl just before it crashed to the floor and it froze right then and there.
He scooped it up and made sure all the fruit was in it as well. Letting out a HUGE sigh or relief, he sat it back on the table. He would've been a dead man if he broke that bowl. For some strange reason, his mom felt as if that bowl made her feel fancy for having something she only assumed was a piece of art. He supposed that was why his power activated.
That surprised him. Olli always assumed that his freezing power only activated when he thought his life was threatened. Yeah, his mom would have been devastated if her precious bowl was destroyed but his life wouldn't be in any danger. That got him thinking; maybe his power activated more so out of panic than fear. He sure would've panicked if the bowl broke. And he was panicky when he thought Matt and Red X were robbers breaking in his house. And all the other times his power activated.
So he hobbled over to the cabinet and took out his dad's favorite coffee mug. The one Olli made for him when he was a kid at summer camp about 9 or 10 years ago. He looked at it for a while, examining the way the misspelled "luv" was beginning to fade and how there was a chip on one side of the top of the mug and how the inside of it was permanently stained a faded brown front his dad using it so often.
Olli smiled as he gently rubbed the mug, remembering how he didn't even want to go to camp that summer. His dad was going away on business for a few weeks and Olli wouldn't be there to see him off. A few days later was Father's day and the camp counselors gave the kids a project to make their dads or grandads or uncle or all around father figures something nice. Olli knew his dad always started his morning drinking coffee so he made the mug. What the kids didn't know was that their father figures were going to spend the day with them. When Olli saw his dad and gave him the mug, his dad told how much he liked it and that he was going to use it azure soon as he got home. And ever since then, the mug's been the only thing his dad has drunk coffee from.
Taking a deep breath, Olli hurled the mug in the air. He flicked his hands at it as soon as it started to come back down and the thing instantly froze. Letting out another, louder sigh of relief, Olli quickly grabbed the mug and placed it back in the cabinet.
Feeling a little giddy and full of himself, Olli grabbed a plate next and sent it airborne. Flicking his hands towards it three times before it crashed and shattered into a bazillion pieces left Olli standing there with a stupid look on his face as he stared at what used to be a glass plate. "Well, damn," he simply said as he went to go get the broom and dustpan.
