Alien: Covenant

Didn't look at this too closely, but I think we have ANOTHER name change...

Alien: Covenant

Who knows how many name changes we'll see... yeesh. I hope this isn't a sign that Ridley is indeed senile.

Ever since the exclusion of Blomkamp. I don't care about this anymore. I really don't care what, Scott thinks he has to add to the series.. If he thought he had anything to add to the series, he would have supported, Blomkamps sequel from the beginning, instead, of denying that, Prometheus, had anything to do with, the"alien franchise.". Screw, Scott.

Not senile. Just sadly showing he doesn't have the power he once did with Hollywood.
Kill Blomkomp's project & then be forced to alter his own.

He does seem to be flopping all over the place which to me doesn't instill confidence in this sequel I used to have before reading this.

Probably the weight of the studio wanting to make sure the casual trailer viewer will know that these films are directly tied in with the Alien franchise.

So I propose this rename: "Prometheus II: It's set in the same universe and directly linked with Alien films"

That way even dullards who only pay attention at action scenes will know. You know who you are.

Well, we have an official announcement from 20th Century Fox! Title, plot synopsis, and release date...

"Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created in ALIEN with ALIEN: COVENANT, the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with PROMETHEUS -- and connects directly to Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world -- whose sole inhabitant is the "synthetic" David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition"

Once again, the title refers to the name of the ship, Covenant. It's much better than Alien: Paradise Lost, thank god, so I'll take it...

Directed by Ridley Scott, written by Jack Paglen, Michael Green, John Logan and starring Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Rik Barnett (In Negotiations), Alien: Covenant releases October 6th 2017.

That's basically still 2 fu#king years away! Ugh.. 😮

So it seems like we'll get what happened to Rapace's (she's so lovely) character after she arrived on the Engineer world in flashbacks/David's telling. That can work well, if done right.

Agreed, happy with the title, huge improvement over the former. Not thrilled with two more years, but it's not a terrible length of time.

Well, I was thinking that maybe (hopefully) they'll pick up with Shaw and David arriving on the Engineer homeworld planet 'Paradise' (Ridley did say it's suppose to pick back up with them), apparently something is going to happen to Shaw (cliffhanger for next film perhaps?) and then cut to this new crew that will be arriving to find David... or maybe David does something to Shaw before they even arrive? I dunno, but I'll be pretty disappointed if Noomi isn't in the film much. Yes, she's lovely. She's awesome.

Well that article does state that David is the sole inhabitant so it doesn't sound too positive that Shaw will be in the sequel much at all...sadly.

Hm... I saw another writer say that Shaw has been written out of the sequel. But I'm not buying it. I think (hope) that people are jumping to dramatic conclusions.

"...the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world -- whose sole inhabitant is the "synthetic" David..."

They probably just initially think David is the sole inhabitant, but she's off somewhere, somehow...

Hell, her desire to "keep searching" at the end of Prometheus is supposed to be the driving force of the sequel. She is the heroine...

Anyway, I'm not buyin' it. I think that would be too horrible narratively if they just suddenly dispensed with her.

Yeah too many variables & what ifs.

I'm just (over) thinking that if Aliens are written back into the script, they may write Shaw out for fear that audiences will just see a Ripley wannabe storyline.

Ridley says that Noomi will only appear briefly in the new film... 🙁

But 3 more films are planned (someone should change the thread title to Alien: Covenant, btw)...

Until of course Ridley make another change to the title.

No need for lip, Kaz. He's filming them all in your beloved country, stimulating the economy. 😉

Still he could possibly do it.

Yeah, in fact I'll be surprised if we don't see at least one more name change before it's all said and done.

Alien: Down Under

I think after every Prometheus/Alien movie comes out from now on, they are going to say it's the beginning of a new trilogy. They said the same thing with Prometheus, that there would be 2 more after it. Now they are saying the same thing about this one, Alien: Covenant.

I honestly don't think Ridley's got the stamina to start any trilogies.
Plus Hollywood has always been hesitant to invest too much money into the franchise.

Yeah, Ridley is quite old. He's 75 or 76? Something like that. But I think he's gonna keep working until he physically can't. And he doesn't show any signs of stopping anytime soon.

Hell, maybe with the Alien name this time it'll be successful enough and they'll let him film the next two back-to-back. That would be great. It's all this waiting around that is so excruciating.

But good lord there is so much stuff being leaked about the film now. I think Ridley is a huge fu#king blabbermouth. I can't even keep up anymore and I shouldn't anyway... I've already read too much. So from here on out I'm out (at least I'm gonna try, heh). I still wanna keep up with the progress of the production, but I need to quit reading shit or I'm gonna know the whole damn plot synopsis. But here you go if you wanna know...

Apparently Noomi not being in it much could very likely have to do with

Spoiler:
the story being told out of order (hense Ridley's acknowledgment of Star Wars). So something apparently happens to her. (But she is definitely set to film for this one.) There should be a dead Engineer world, at least 2 new monsters. And we should have a David doppelganger.

This is getting quite interesting.
