Alien: Covenant

Maybe. Which is kind of strange. Why are people so happy to see stuff they've already seen? Obviously people are content with variations of what they know. Well... then that's all you get: more of the same.

Is it so strange to ask for something new? Something fresh? Something.. original? Something provocative?

Or do we have to consider big movies just like McDonald's food: always the same, everywhere the same, forever the same, and utterly tasteless.

It's not strange, it's nostalgia

If I want nostalgia I'll pop in the blu ray of Alien, Aliens and the others.

You are sounding like a broken record, queeq

Especially considering Ridley HAS given us new, fresh and original material with the Engineers.

He has. But so far what I've seen from Covenant it's stuff I've seen before:
- crew in ship, have their personal and social thing
- land on far off planet (for colonisation)
- find space ship with eggs
- eggs hatch, face hugger comes out
- guy to sick bay with face hugger
etc etc...

I mean, come on.

Means to an end, my friend. Means to an end. Hop aboard the nostalgia train.

Never said you wanted nostalgia, your post said that people were happy with the same old shit and that it was strange...but it's not strange, it's because those people are happy with the same shit for nostalgic reasons.

How come no one ever notices that the mission impossible movies are the same? I watched them back to back and other than MI2 each time Ethan Hunt goes rogue with his team and catches the real bad guys.

Yeah, yeah, blah, blah.. blame Star Wars and Jurassic World for the nostalgia peddling. They've made studios more keen on it now, I think. Ridley will likely use it to an extent, but we know already he's using new creatures/monsters/aliens and continuing the Engineer mythos, so it's not going to be just fan service like the new awful Star Wars movies.

To a large extent I agree with this article below. I think certain scenes were cut for good reason (like the opening Elder Engineers and shedded skin that Fifield found, they were awkward scenes), but certain others could enhance the film, especially with the new film releasing soon...

We're just at a time where nostalgia is most profitable. I wouldn't blame it on any one franchise.

Well, making sequels to a franchise is nostalgia anyway. So why not enhance the franchise. They spent hundreds of millions of dollars on these movies. Why not spent a few bucks on a decent writer that does want to write something original instead of rehashing what's been done before.

Some movie buff said the most famous "nod" was Indiana reaching for his empty gun holster in Temple/Doom.

You lost me, bro. 😕

Apparently there is a new trailer attached to Logan...

New poster...

...and apparently the new trailer comes out tomorrow...

And here it is....

YouTube video

Looks cool.

Kinda worried it may end up just being generic sci-fi schlock though.

Through detective work in the deep-web, I've learned what the story-progression in this one is going to be.

MAJOR SPOILERS BELOW, READ WITH CAUTION:

-ship crew land on an unexplored planet
-crew investigates alien ship
-alien ship has eggs in it
-guy sticks his face in a egg and gets infected
-crew go against protocol and bring infected guy aboard ship
-hostile alien life form gets loose and starts killing crew members
-one of the crew members is a AI with ulterior motives

Sounds familiar.

Exactly what I joked & was worried about...

Filmed in Australia...yup "alien planet" looks like the Australian wilderness.

😂

It's alien to us here on the States side of the world.

Cool, it'll be like taking a trip to Australia. G'day, mate!

It's either Australia or New Zealand.

Except to see either kangaroos or hobbits in the background.

The preview killed this for me. I'll still see it but it looks like another forgettable alien film. I wanted engineers as the alien shit has been done to death. This doesn't look like anything outside the norm of the alien films.
