If Igniz was on he might have some answers on all of that.

I dont get it, so the Engineers created the Aliens and the Predators have been hunting them for thousands of years? And the Aliens appeared on earth in the 1980s? or is this a complete reboot?

Aliens have been present on earth via the Preds for thousands of years according to the AvP saga. I'm not sure how that lines up with what's presented in Prometheus and the actual Alien franchise. I'm not even sure how all of that is handled in the comics in terms of how the Preds and Engineers interact.

This is the Weyland-Yutani Corporation company timeline of events according to Alien the Weyland-Yutani Report written by SD Perry.

2012 AD-Weyland Corporation is formed

2023 AD-First patent for method and apparatus for cybernetic individuals granted to the Weyland Corporation

2034 AD-The first FTL-capable vessel, the Heliodes, is introduced by the Weyland Corporation

2039 AD-The first breathable atmosphere is created on an extrasolar planet-GJ 667Cc-following deployment of a Weyland Atmosphere Processor

2091 AD-The Prometheus mission leaves for LV-223

2093 AD-Sir Peter Weyland dies on LV-223

2094 AD- Doctor Elizabeth Shaw transmits

2099 AD-The Weyland Corporation absorbs cybernetics rival Yutani: the Weyland-Yutani Corporation opens with the largest share value ever recorded on the System Exchange

2101 AD-The United States Colonial Marine Corps is established

2104 AD-South, Central and North America form a financial collective, the United Americas

2122 AD-First recorded contact with Xenomorph; LV-426 and USCSS Nostromo

2130 AD-Cofunded by the Weyland-Yutani Corporation, Gateway Station is constructed

2137 AD-Civilian Amanda Ripley encounters Xenomorph at Sevastapol

2157 AD-Hadley's Hope, a Weyland-Yutani terraforming colony, is established on LV-426

2179 AD-Third and Fourth recorded contacts with Xenomorph:LV-426/USS Sulaco and Fiorina 161

2202 AD-United Americas, EU/UK, China, Heelal Yo, and 4 independent Core Systems colonies form the United Systems

2219 AD-The Geryon/Kadmos mission leaves for LV-223; contact with the Kadmos is terminated after

2226 AD-United Systems Military is established

2291 AD-Weyland-Yutani colony Nu Indi successfully sues for independence

2293 AD-Rival Company Ridton, markets advanced FTL drive; Weyland-Yutani loses USM contract for FTL vessels

2306 AD-Artificial Persons from the Alethea Collective are granted civil rights;all cybernetics divisions suffer financial loss

2349 AD-Mega Corporations are banned; Weyland-Yutani loses final appeal to retain designation 3 years later

2356 AD-DNA samples from a Xenomorph-implanted human[Ellen Ripley] are rediscovered by USM

2376 AD-The first auton is manufactured, an android designed by androids

2379 AD-Following a violent uprising on Luna/AE, autons are recalled and destroyed

2381 AD-Most recent recorded contact with Xenomorph; USM Auriga

As you can see, the events of the AVP movies are not mentioned in the timeline of events. This is because the current canon states that Weyland Corporation absorbed Yutani Corporation in the year 2099 AD. Paul WS Anderson in the making of AVP stated Yutani Corporation took over Weyland Industries after Charles Bishop Weyland's death in 2004 AD. This means that AVP movies is depicting Weyland-Yutani existed in 2004 AD. The company timeline of events also references Alien Isolation making that game canon to the movies. Now I know 2219 AD was mentioned in the company timeline of events referencing the Fire and Stone comics as canon. I know that comic also have Predators in it. But its not proof AVP movies are canon to the Alien movies. Here's a link describing Fire and Stone.

This is what Chris Sebela says about the AVP movies

Are both AvP movies going to be canon, or just the solo movies?

Sebela: I'm just sticking with the solo movies, because I think they build up an interesting mythology of their own that fits in well with the world we're building. I think the AvP movies have a lot of interesting things going on, but they seem to exist in their own little bubble, one that's very far away from ours, and, personally, I want to keep myself as free of all past AvP encounters, to start from a clean slate and build my own take on this mythical face-off.

So AVP movies are non canon to Fire and Stone. This means Fire and Stone is depicting the Predators meeting the Xenomorphs and Engineers for the first time.

I think I read too much of Igniz' post...

So was Prometheus FTL?

FTL?

Faster than light?

Yes

Are you suggesting time travel by asking the ship's speed capability?

No just a question

How fast did Prometheus do the Kessel Run?

Well, I've accidentally peeped some cool as shit stuff about some skinless Engineer in the trailer. (I really need to step back so I don't see anything else...)

Too bad there's nothing but rehash and nostalgia stuff from Ridley Scott the hack... eh, broken record queeq?

Reading Ridley Scott is saying the next movie has already been written.

Source?

I sure hope so. I hope we don't have to wait another 5 years for the next installment.

edit: Oh, okay... here...

Sweet A-F. 💃

It just has to be successful, and I was looking and it doesn't look like it will have much competition its opening weekend, but the following weekends will have some strong competition: Pirates of the Caribbean/Baywatch, Wonder Woman, and then The Mummy. And then Spiderman comes out July 7th. Yikes.

I think Fox should consider moving Alien Covenant's release date from May 19 2017 to April 26 2017. After all, Fox declared April 26 as Alien Day. Also, I found this

You can ask the MU/TH/UR computer questions related to the Alien and Prometheus franchise.

I've never understood why competition or opening weekend dates close to each other would be a factor..?

I mean the same crowd base that will watch an Alien movie will be the same that would watch all the others you mentioned.

Except for Baywatch...

For the very reason you mentioned. I mean, I'm no film economist, but other big production franchise films are likely to deprive Alien: Covenant of some ticket sales. But with today's climate of one ginormous movie after another it's pretty damn difficult to avoid probably.

I'm trying to not know too much stuff about the new movie, but I know it's going to have some new and original stuff that you keep complaining about there being a lack of. That's my point. You've done nothing but repeat yourself ad nauseam complaining about the rehash and nostalgia and whatnot from the trailers. Do you deny it...?

Looks like a remake of the original alien. If I see the trailer... I've seen all that before... exploring a spaceship on a planet, eggs, eggs hatch, face hugger comes out, alien comes out on space ship, hassle over quarantine rules, running through hallways, spaceship blows up and a robot... Is this all they could come up with?

And... we get the same ole story we've had a couple of times before. How... exciting.

Wow, what a great idea. Each year we just use the same scripts of the movies we're making. We just handle them differently.

Because an argument like 'so what if it's the same, it can be handled differently' is so lame. It's an attitude that doesn't quite invite originality.

And now it's salty if I don't praise studios or film makers that don't seem to make an effort.

It's the same critical point of view: lack of originality, plodding along well-trodden paths.

Maybe. Which is kind of strange. Why are people so happy to see stuff they've already seen? Obviously people are content with variations of what they know. Well... then that's all you get: more of the same.

Is it so strange to ask for something new? Something fresh? Something.. original? Something provocative?

Or do we have to consider big movies just like McDonald's food: always the same, everywhere the same, forever the same, and utterly tasteless.

If I want nostalgia I'll pop in the blu ray of Alien, Aliens and the others.

He has. But so far what I've seen from Covenant it's stuff I've seen before:
- crew in ship, have their personal and social thing
- land on far off planet (for colonisation)
- find space ship with eggs
- eggs hatch, face hugger comes out
- guy to sick bay with face hugger
etc etc...

I mean, come on.

Well, making sequels to a franchise is nostalgia anyway. So why not enhance the franchise. They spent hundreds of millions of dollars on these movies. Why not spent a few bucks on a decent writer that does want to write something original instead of rehashing what's been done before.

All I can now hope for is that the colonisation thing of Covenant is not a lame excuse by the corporation to get these creatures on board, in these people, ti sue them, examine them, use them as weapons etc... Making it even more like the first Alien movies.
