It didn't 'favour' him at all, this is a case of the Sages not having the full story, we, the player, do have the full story. Ganondorf gets the Triforce because the triforce split in the other timeline.

The sages were just unfortunate enough to be in the room when he received it.

Dorf was lucky and the games are up to the player they aren't canon. Just different stories which are open to interpretation.

Sages won despite not knowing the top would favor him. Dorf isn't very formidable.
