The PS3 sold quite well initially, though. It dropped off, yes, but that was more due to the lack of games available than anything else.
And not really, because people are acting like the griping about MS's pricing is only due to the fact that Sony's is lower, which isn't the case at all.

Undoubtedly a combination of the two. But the cost was a massive factor, which is why they gave it a $100 price cut less than a year after it came out. Oh, and this caused the console sales to almost triple.
