he wasn't dead, he had an impressive battle with the celestials in the previous issue (thor #300)

took 2 blasts from celestials and still didn't get KOed....
anyways, the scan was to show that gaia's power is extremely limited, she was only able to restore thor, others were apparently beyond her power
i agree in regards to your second point, my guess is that dormammu would have won, though it's still impressive nonetheless, and im almost sure that it's the single most impressive battle feat for gaia, because she rarely fights.

If you think SBP wins against someone who has done FAR better against Marvel's TOP High Heralds than he did tackling a couple of DC low-mids even when that someone has an entire army backing her up that includes some mid-top tier Heralds in the mix, then nothing out there can really convince you.
