DCNU Superman vs Masterson Thor

Started by Damborgson9 pages

Usually when Masterson Thor gets specified though it's this Thor

Who's still plenty powerful. Just slightly physically weaker than normal Thor and not nearly as adept at using his powers.

You've genuinely lost me, but I only remember seeing this guy in about five appearances

-- versus Juggernaut with the help of the New Warriors in their debut
(he was apparently suffering from random miniature strokes for some reason)

-- versus a Russian superteam that included Crimson Dynamo and the Vanguard (apparently again suffering from some physical ailment or injury that was hindering his powers)

-- "versus" Spider-Man (just a misunderstanding)

-- versus Gladiator (beat Gladiator, if memory serve)

-- versus Juggernaut a 2nd time, shown on the previous page, without the beard.

As I'm not a regular reader of Thor adventures now, and, really, never have been, I can't know if this is an average portrayal of Masterson or not. If it IS, however, I vote decidedly in favor of Masterson, for it shows he is

a) intelligent enough to probe an enemy for weakness even in the midst of brawl,
b) good at brawling and traditional physical engagements
AND
c) likely to use the resources of his hammer if reason dictates, which I don't see DCnU Superman having an answer to.

Re-read Thor's thought balloons as Mjolnir is busy keeping Juggernaut's forcefield at bay.

Whatever name you choose to call him, the Thor that took on Juggernaut in the showing I'm presenting was Eric Masterson.

That was Thor with Eric Masterson as a mortal host (not unlike Thor with Donald Blake or Jake Olsen as a mortal host), not Eric Masterson turned into a version of Thor himself (while the real Thor resided in Asgard, leaving Earth to Eric).

Eric Masterson Thor =/= Thor (with Eric Masterson as a host).

Yeah, there was a glitch in my internet connection.

That's Thor though. The only reason Masterson is specified as this version of Thor is because he's the one in the drivers seat. Thor might be joined with Masterson, but Thor is in control. Just like with Don Blake and Jake Olsen. They're still Thor, not Blake Thor or Olsen Thor.

Recently re-reading my TPB and I don't know if Masterson is any weaker then the real Thor, I think he just had confidence issues and is a pussy.

Tbh, Masterson had confidence issues effecting his power levels a lot more than Gladiator ever did as a whole. It's how he could go from being beaten down by Gladiator to nearly killing him outright in a handful of blows.

I would say that Thor's faith in himself, skill, and not being a puss effects his overall capabilities, which includes strength.

Yup, he could be pretty goddamn erratic. Even his durability seemed to fluctuate, it was weird.

If he had an S on his chest, we'd hear nonstop nonsense about how it was evidence of clearly dynamic strength.

From my understanding, they were supposed to be pretty damn close, but there was an implied and sometimes shown difference in strength stacked on top of his piss poor confidence.

So ... to be sure ... Thor is like some spirit that possesses people?

What happened to the consciousness of Erics Masterson while Thor was fighting Juggernaut, then?

Was Masterson asleep? In limbo?
Just sort of watching "himself", as if he were on TV?

Do the people Thor takes over have any control over their thoughts and actions or is he in complete control? Is there an "off" switch?
If so, what summons him again?

I'm genuinely curious as to how this works.

They blank out.

Donald Blake's only got a few years worth of memories.
