I was hoping to first do the body, then the mind and then the powers in a fairly rapid succession.

If people are ready then it shouldn't take too long.

Co-sign here. I won't be available for drafts on this Sunday since it's my best friend's birthday and I will be offline the whole day. Saturday suits me every way.

psionics are hardly a can of worms; it is either a mind ability or a power, and it has to be below the herald power level. Magic is imbalanced because it is a mind-power, so any participant who doesn't have the mind of someone who knows magic (or a learned telepath) is hindering themselves, unless they have a very specific strategy. Magic basically allows you to have the powers of 2 characters, and a good body selection gives you 3. So a Man-Thing body + Dr. Strange mind + whatever power, for example, is going to be a huge advantage over someone who goes, for instance, Colossus body + Cap's mind + whatever power. The imbalance forces contestants to either have a very good idea of the strategy they want to use beforehand or select characters that maximize the number of powers they have access to. In this way, magic or learned psychic abilities are nearly obligatory. I actually think this is what curryman intended, and I'm not against it, I'm just explaining my statement a bit better.

If I understand Curryman's definitions properly I disagree a little.
The way I see it he's saying if you take mind you get the learned abilities. So if you took the mind of someone like the Shadow who learned TP and how to "cloud men's minds" you'd get TP because he gained it from his training in Tibet. But if you picked Xavier you wouldn't because his TP comes from his mutant power.

Similarly I think there would also be a difficulty with magic. For example you might get Strange's knowledge of magic, but you wouldn't get his talismans ( which are sources of power) so you may know how to cast the spells but wont have the power to make them as potent. A good example is GA Fate as shown in All Star Squadron. Without the Helm he still knew the magic and in places like his tower and stone henge could craft powerful spells, but elsewhere what he could do magically was limited greatly. Another example would be picking the mind of Arion Lord high mage of atlantis, without his star jewel you'd only have the ability he showed in his depowered eras ( illusions and TP)

Equipment is determined by Mind character, so you'll get talismans, helms and other stuff.

Most of the characters you mentioned are beyond the limits anyway.

But this is part of the fun. Need talismans to get a character's magic? Find another pick. Or, rather, equipment comes with the "mind" pick, so if it can be considered standard equipment you'll have them and be ok.

It's all arbitrary in how the mind/powers/body thing is distributed. As long as curry is consistent, the only trick is then working within those rules.

Summary of Participants and Rulings:

Body - Anything beyond base durability/strength/healing is technically still accessible, but you need a "mind" capable of reasonably unlocking it.

Powers - Inherent knowledge of powers is granted to your "mind." Anything that is learned (MA skill, magic incantations, etc.) is considered "mind." Anything innate (mutant powers, natural abilities, etc.) is considered a "power."

Mind - With your mind pick comes their standard equipment. See Powers above for explanation of mind/powers breakdown.

Everything else should be covered in the main rules in the OP.

in rapid succession? you mean the same day? or rapid as in the next couple days?

I'm sure he means within the span of a few days. Someone won't get their picks in right away in each round, so it will be prudent to wait at least a day so as not to be unfair to thsoe traveling over the holiday.

Or not. I'm free all weekend. Curry, Body at 10am EST, Powers at 11am, Mind at noon, yeah?

Haven't picked out a name for mine. I guess I should get working. Some of my picks are still in limbo though...so it may be premature.

i said I was playing but in the other thread.
can someone give me a clue of the upper limits of " high meta" I thought I saw a tier thread somewhere but havent been able to find it for a few days.
also re start time fir me it now 7.30 Thursday 4th July. when does that mean the drafts start ( the date line thing confuses the crap out of me)

I meant that I wanted to start the next draft as soon as possible.

An optimal draft would be getting everything done on saturday, but I will be available for some time on sunday as well. I'm taking the N1 Sunday morning, but that'll be when most of you guys are tucked away in your beds 🙂

It's pinned in the vs. forum.

I think he's creating the draft thread at 10AM EST here in the States, though curry himself is elsewhere.

thanks, i thought id seen it but couldnt find it when i was looking .
i was curious cause i' e seen characters mentioned that i'd consider herald level ( like Strange). looks like the assessment is the same. some I had considered however are also classed as low herald ( which is fair I just thought they'd be fair game because of those mentioned)

It's not an exact line. Some used to consider Extremis Tony to be the upper limit, though that's entirely unofficial, and current IM has actually been moved up to low herald (rightly so, imo). The best way to get a gauge of it is just to scrutinize who is high meta and who is low herald. There's a bit of wiggle room, but you'll get the gist of it if you're familiar with the characters (which it seems like you are).

so i assume a draft thread will be opened in this forum at 10 EST? what if not all the competitors get in? are we waiting the full day to allow body picks to be made or are we moving on after a set amount of time? i found someone to make my picks, now i just need all the relevant info to pass along.

So is speed limited now to any exact figure like mach 100?

Mach 10, I believe. But it's not a character cap--you can still draft High Meta and below characters with feats in excess of that, they'll just be gimped to Mach 10 speed.
