Curryman's Meta-Amalgam Tourney!

So you can get strength and durability from body and powers? So do they stack? I see everything has a high meta cap so if it goes beyond the cap is it allowed? (just trying to understand)

Interesting.
mhmm

Or hilarious. Does he control which powers he'll get?

Physical abilities were always available as power picks.

Body was just more limited.

Eh, ok. Realistically, stacking some more durability won't make a gigantic difference. And since it's it's (almost) the only thing you can get via body pick, there's not a ton of reason to double dip for most powers picks. Just seemed odd.

😂

Mad points to whoever picked this crazy bastard. Charlotte's question is relevant, though.

Whoever picked him must have something up their sleeve.

Don't you all 😄

Might work the way magic does in this tournament: you can only use feats that the character has already done. So, he can choose out of the hero's he has become?

Heh, possibly. Or if a body pick was chosen for a different reason - unlockable powers or somesuch - then it might be prudent to get some reliable base stats via a powers pick. Britain has a wide range of stuff, so I could see either being true. I'd be a bit more worried if he were mind, given his predilection for mystical and/or universal-scale mechanisms. But w/e.

Yeah, any powers at any time, and that guy becomes dicey, especially if he can stack different power sets. But one at a time, even if he segues between them in a fight, and he seems like an ok pick.

If he doesn't get to choose, then I have no idea how judges will handle it.

Mark (my BF) already dubbed this "Russian Roulette Man". Since Nelson doesn't seem to control which powers he gets, maybe... a dice thrower is required?

cap britain? i'm curious--he does have that little feat where he was able to stand against the full phoenix force..... obviously the sword is not his to gain, but if someone can unlock his 'full confidence' pretty sure that would push him well above limits. he's a weird character to figure....

We only need 1 more power draft and then once we're done with the debate, we can start 🙂

Let' talk a little bit more about what kind of bracket/match systems you guys want to use. Since we ended up with 10 people, I figure it might as well be best to test the waters and find out the popular opinion on this bracket-business.

Some of our wonderful participants posted a few suggestions earlier, which did you like the most?

Suddenly he gets the sword of excalibur and the multiverse explodes in the first match? 😛

I have no issues with any picks so far, surprisingly enough.

The Cpt. Britain pick is somewhat confusing though. There's a blurry line between his body and his powers (and frankly, his mind, which may grant him the amulet and his mental control). Curry, have you talked things through with his drafter to explain what he would and wouldn't get?

His powers are now innate so he should get all the powers.

Id posted some info on a double elimination bracket a few pages back (including a video). That seems like the easiest route.

Been covered, but thanks. I was just curious about inheriting his durability/strength, which curry clarified is viable.

I'm okay with this.

How do we determine who gets to do the extra fight?

We'll want to know who has what, and probably be given a day or two before our first match. With some redrafts by others that have happened, it's likely some people are still putting scans together. I wouldn't mind a day or so to organize my scans and collection either, though the majority of what I'll need is taken care of.

And I assume we'll be sending you our writeup, per tourney norms?

Also, post limit (I'd suggest somewhere from 5-10)? And how long will matches last?

Realistically, though, once we make a bracket and rough schedule, the bigger issue is making sure judges stay timely. It's not uncommon to wait for days or a week+ for a ruling, even from regulars.

The first one which Id posted also has a nice system that allows for "Grand Slam"-style schedule so to say.

7-6 and 1-2 matches may be held between the newcomers so that to avoid them getting embarassed by a veteran in the very first round. Like qualification on major tennis tournaments.

This is five. We need six. So someone gets lucky not to fight an extra fight there.

Let's say we randomly assign 1, 2, 3, 7, 6 numbers on the scheme above to the tournament newcomers and assign the rest of the numbers to the vets. I think it will be somewhat fair for people who are just learning the ropes of how the things are done on KMC.

Random number generator for all, yo. What's this vets vs. newbs stuff?

Basically like a qualification on major tennis tourney. The ones with higher ranking start from the 2nd round. This seemed to be the neatest way to do things in my opinion, not being and "experience"-ist (is it even a word?).

I think the first match should be at least one weak later from now.
