I would have had them write in an older Lex Luthor just to cast Cranston.

That's silly. The actor should be cast for the role not the role written for the actor. I do wish we had an older Lex though.

It seems to me Supes vs Bats is Lex Luthor's origin story. The fact that they cast a young actor for Lex means he'll probably be a villain for multiple movies. A terrible idea considering Bryan Cranston was perfect and jobless

In most continuity nowadays, Lex is around the same age as Superman, so it wouldn't really work.

There's nothing wrong with a younger Luthor. I just didn't expect Eisenberg to be Luthor. I heard his latest movie's performance is radically different from anything he's done, so I'll give him a chance for now.

The one with the double?

not really.. every character is defined on how they are being written, in this case lex is written as someone young and short..

My worry here is that there's no movie that's the end goal. They are both just staging something new.

Batman V Superman should be the focus as this itself could potentially be one of the biggest movie of all time. But Dawn of Justice is clearly a set up to Justice League.

So then Justice League is the big end goal right? Well no because Justice League is just the platform to launch solo movies for other DC characters which WB doesn't have the confidence to do before JL.

So the only end goal here seems to be a very long route to finally getting other big budget DC character solo movies who aren't called Superman or Batman.

Compare that to Marvel, who had the confidence to go straight in and do 4 Solo movies for 4 different Marvel characters. And it all built up to the Avengers which wasn't a platform for anything else. It was the end goal (of phase I at least) and just ended up being fantastic as a result of all the work they put into that being nothing but a great movie. No build up required, no setting up another franchise. Just an Epic movie. The only movie which was a platform setting up the Avengers was IM2. And we saw how that suffered in quality as a result.

Yeah the Double.

so you would have Superman be dumber?

Clark is smart, but not in the same way Bruce is. Clark can be too naive and idealistic, while Bruce is the hardened realist who's willing to play dirty and sneaky to win.

Call me crazy, but I personally loved Gene Hackman and Kevin Spacey performances as Lex Luthor.

Heisenberg > Eisenberg

I liked Hackman. Spacey should have been awesome, but the script let him down.

Cranston would have sucked as a young Lex Luthor.

Spacey was awesome. Even though his character was horribly written.

But would have been amazing as an older Lex Luthor.

Jesse Eisenberg is a fine choice for young Lex Luthor I guess. But I would have much preferred that they went with an older Lex Luthor. Bryan Cranston could have played a ruthless, kniving, manipulative businessman extremely well. Instead we'll probably get a quirky, smartass kid who turns evil because supes didn't sign his autograph.

Why would we probably get that? For at least a decade now, we've been getting a Lex Luthor in the comics that's around the same age as Clark, and the character hasn't really been affected that much.

People say Eisenberg can't appear threatening. Really? Does nobody remember Malcolm in the Middle?

But Cranston had many roles before Malcolm in the Middle which showcased his versatile acting. Like his roles on the X Files, Matlock, National Lampoons Thanksgiving Family Reunion and even Seinfeld. It's these roles that got him into Breaking Bad.

Eisenberg has played different variations of the same character. I don't think he can pull off threatening or scary.

Supposedly hes a bit scary in the double.

You know who would have been an interesting choice for Lex who is around Superman's age, Corey Stoll aka, Peter Russo from House of Cards.

Marvel owns him for Antman.
