Aqua Man is a household name. Albeit for the wrong reasons but still with marketing people may see it out of pure curiosity

Are you sure about that? Whenever I talk about Aquaman to my casual friends they don't even know who he is. I've only met one friend who is an actual fan. Not saying his movies wouldn't work, but I doubt todays generation even know who he is. For the exception of comic nerds, of course.

Pretty much everyone I know both my age and my parents age knows Aquaman, which is why family guy and stuff makes jokes about him. Because people know him as a general concept. The younger kids, maybe not idk

Don't be silly.

So they shouldn't follow the lore?

i'm having fun but she is too skinny though..

certainly they should follow the lore but you and i both know that they may or may not..

I'm not going to pretend that people know Aquaman as well as say, Superman, but like Lek said, he's popular enough and well known enough that Family Guy makes jokes about him. Robot Chicken does it too, though that's more of a niche market.

South Park parodied him. He was in Smallville. He almost got his own show. Then there's Entourage, and the most well-known version of him, which is from Super Friends.

Even Ferguson used to do an Aquaman segment, and Chris Rock used him as a joke in his Christopher Reeve set.

Like I said, he's not Superman level of being well-known, but he's definitely someone that the GA would be at least somewhat familiar with.

The only problem is getting rid of the whole "lame" stigma.

It seems beforehand that all that most people that don't read comics knew about Aquaman was from the Superfriends cartoon. Before he was announced for Injustice, people were either dismissing him or saying he would be a joke character because they thought all he did was just talk to fish.

Aquaman is more known then say GOTG or even Martian Manhunter, but how are you determining that he is a household name? By just the people around you? And how well.known is he around the world?

Btw, im totally down for a.solo movie, i just want to know the reasoning behind it.

I can't speak for the world only America, but like PR said he is in a lot of stuff and pop culture makes jokes about him all the time shows made for general audiences

Pretty sure most Americans know who Aquaman is TBH. Even my mom has referenced him once.

the bigger problem, imo, isn't that he's known, it's what he's known for.

They'd have to market the shit out of it to get people to see the trailer and think he'd be anything other than the Super Friends character, so what I would personally do is have him show up in say, a Wonder Woman or Flash solo movie first, to establish him and get him screen time.

As for stories you could use? There are at least a good dozen Aquaman stories that would be awesome on the big screen, imo, and would resonate with audiences.

I think it might just be around where I live. Most of the demographs are Indians, Koreans, and hispanics (bay area) and I don't think they even care about super heroes.

Sure he's a joke and appears briefly on talk shows, but that doesn't really mean people are paying attention to it.

I could see them just giving him some awesome lines/scenes in JL. Have him steal almost every scene he's in. They may have to "alter" his personality a bit to really have him knock it out of the park with movie goers, but if they make him a scene stealer in JL the demand for a solo movie would likely go way up.

they will also have to differentiate themselves from Namor who is getting his own film first

Newsarama has Anti-Monitor for their most wished villain to be on the big screen. Anybody want to see him over Darkseid?

A (toned-down) Anti-Monitor could be very cool if done well. I'd be more than happy with him being the ultimate evil in the DCCU.

I'd still like to see Darkseid though.

Both would be fantastic. I'd like to see the AM more, though. Someone on a universal scale.

If people get the reference, though, then that means they know of the character. They don't have to know his origin, that's what a movie is for.

...Why would they have to alter him?

They should, but it's not exactly rocket science. Aquaman is very different from Namor bar being related to the ocean, and being strong.

Not really alter his history or anything, just add some "quirks" to help him steal the show like Quicksilver just did. I can't see him being that guy by being the usual straight shooter. The same way they made Tony Stark a little bit extra for the movies, they could inject some humor and arrogance into him (if the supposed Namor movie doesn't hit those notes first)
