I forgot about the fourth one. I actually enjoyed that one quite a bit. Second one was boring as was the third one. Depp's performance was uninspired and wasn't as good as his first performance.

You have some bad taste in films

each to their own i suppose.

I loved the first 3 Pirate movies. It's only the 4th one I didn't like.

Honestly if not for the 4th one I'd be excited as hell for a new Pirates movie. But just have a feeling now they've lost their mojo.

Depends who's involved with it.

Don't care what others think, really. I loved the first one (Most do), but generally people that I have talked to hate 2-4. It shows in the ratings.

Regardless of script or direction quality, great actors will elevate the quality of thier movie.

Without johnny depp, pirates 3 and 4 would've sucked shit. Instead they were mediocre

Without RDJ, im2 and im3 would've been shit bad. Instead they were pretty good.

Hundreds of examples

Pirates 3 and 4 were both shit, completely unsavable by Depp's acting.

In fact, by the third film Depp's character was one of the more irritating parts of the movie, as Depp's solid acting couldn't compensate for the shit writing of his character.

Much like how Hugo Weaving's excellent acting chops couldn't save Agent Smith in Matrix Revolutions.

And I'm the one who is not. Different strokes for different folks.

Pretty much.

Yup.

The only source from which your concerns seem to stem is Momoa's appearance.

As far as I'm concerned, the actor's appearance doesn't necessarily have to match the source material for the performance to be faithful. Momoa has the physicality and acting talent - if he can properly embody the character's persona, his slightly darker skin tone or ethnic features shouldn't be a problem.

Saying the choice of Momoa represents a digression from the source material is premature

For the adaptation to be faithful, it does, imo.

And it isn't just about his appearance, which I've already stated.

I didn't like Pirates 2 or 3 much, as I can't stand Knightley or too much of Bloom, but that's me.

Good to see people forgetting what they can do with make up during that process.

Assuming they would even use make-up (which they likely won't), that isn't what it's about.

Which I've had to say twice now.

Depp was pretty boring, too.

James Wan to direct SHAZAM?

Depp was decent in #2 I thought (pretty much the highlight for me). In 3... He just wasn't used properly imo.
