yeah in the comics. But i think thats why the MCU is doing well. They tend to tone down the Uber powerful heroes to make the film somewhat more believable and not seem to much like a cartoon.
The general audience knows they are watching a fantasy/scifi super hero flick, but i dont think they would relate to hulk punching planets in half, or an unbeatable god like superman that is capable of anything. Thats why i think the nolan trilogy was great ( worked for the movie world). They tried to have that approach with MOS, having him be Emo, and pushed for an emotional 1st half so you can feel for supes, then they have this epic cartoonish dragonballZ fight.
Not everything in the comics translates well for the movies.
I honestly disagree with most of what you just said. No offence.
Power levels, imo, really don't (or shouldn't) have any impact on whether a story is good or not. A good superhero movie needs scale, sure, but I saw nothing in MOS that put Superman out of range of guys like Thor and Hulk from their movies.
All of that said, it IS a staple of the Superman character that he's supposed to do what nobody else can. To achieve the impossible.
