Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

The best Batman movie, and arguably best DC/Superhero movie, puts so much emphasis on Batman not killing people. It is the emotional through-line of the film and is the heart of the conflict. When you have your new Batman killing people you are directly challenging that film's argument for why Batman doesn't kill. That's an argument that can absolutely be made but it takes a pretty big ego to directly go up against such a good movie.

If Luthor is

Spoiler:
anything like the Joker, then they turned him into absolute sh_t. Except people who like Batman pretend that when the Joker does it is cool, but it's also lame there. The Joker sucks as a character and I'm glad that people attacking Eisenberg's portrayal means they all agree that it's an abysmal character that doesn't deserve atention

In that way, BvS is the best film DC could've done for me 👆

Edit: Actually I'm kidding, an good Superman movie would be better.

I'd say a 7/10 for me. Pretty disappointing in how everything played out and the editing was atrocious times. Still, there was some things I really liked. Primarily WW and many people cheered with her action debut. Ben was solid as Batman, but not as good as Bale, IMO. I do think he has the potential to be just as good, if not better, but the potential was lost in this. I liked the cameos for the most part, but the Knightmare scene was forced as ****.

Damn best Golgo can give is a 7/10. Not looking good for me.

Do you agree now that Snyder should get off Justice League?

Batman sort of killed in the Nolan verse as well when it came down to it. Harvey and (lets face it) Ras.

PS: I'd give Batman vs Superman a 6/10.

Well "not saving" Ras was definitely Nolan doing some cheating but Harvey is defensible. He probably didn't mean for the fall kill Harvey and made up for it by letting himself become the villain instead of ruining everything Harvey stood for in life. Either die a hero or live long enough to become the villain and such.

By the way it's pretty amazing that people still quote TDK imo. Film's dialogue was all kinds of cheesy.

None of this sounds promising at all. Also if there's so many problems with the main attraction of the DCU then how will SS now fair off? I do think that as of now a soft reboot would probably be for the best: they should certainly try to make the WW movie the best thing ever.

Harvey barely qualifies. Bruce had to tackle him otherwise he'd blow a kids head off. That he was standing next to an edge was just shitty circumstances.

There's a fine line between dramatic and cheesy.

Angry Joe gave it a 5-7/10. He was hyped as hell for it and has split opinions.

Indeed. That's why I love it.

You misunderstand. TDK is amazing and Harvey is by far my favorite in the movie. But in context, that line does not come from a big speech. He says it during what is supposed to be a casual dinner conversation and it doesn't feel like a line a person would come up with on the spot(in response to Julius Caesar being kind of a dick).

How did i misunderstand.... when you clearly said "Film's dialogue was all kinds of cheesy

or did you forget you said that?

You seemed to think cheesy=not good.

Sometimes its not.

I havent seen the movie yet, but I busted out laughing at this quote from somebody on CBR.

I left the theater even more depressed than I was after seeing Man of Steel. I physically felt sick.

This is a movie for people who can't stand the sunny optimism of Daredevil.

Yah,...honestly I think it's probably my main problem with the movie. I understand what DC is doing and in a way it's smart. They're going for a more serious tone to differentiate themselves from Marvel. But...I think Snyder just went WAY to far in the opposite direction. Now what we're stuck with is a film so bleak and dark that it's just not that fun to watch. Even the fight scene with Batman and Superman suffers for it, because by the time it finally comes you're feeling exhausted from the non-stop melancholy assault on your senses.

I have no problem with Batman

Spoiler:
killing. DC is really pushing this as an Elseworlds (anyone remember those?) story rather than a more direct translation of the current comics, and this IS heavily influenced by Frank Miller's work, and that Batman was a mean old son of a *****.

And besides, outside of his vehicles, I can count on one hand the amount of people Batman kills (future doesn't count, obviously). He goes out of his way to try to disable the guns of the guys guarding Martha. When he stabs the guy, it honestly looked to me like he'd gone for the shoulder to match the wound he had.

Sure, some of his h2h attacks looked particularly brutal, but they do in the comics too. We're talking about a guy that regularly throws sharpened boomerangs at people and "knocks them out". There's an inherent suspension of belief that comes with the character.

He's not the Punisher, even if he's a bit trigger happy in his batmobile and batwing.

As far as the performance goes? Affleck is the first on-screen Batman I've ever seen that comes close to being what Reeve was. One minute he's laid back as Bruce Wayne. He has an almost constant smirk, and genuinely appears to be a playboy. With a simply shift in expression, Affleck drops the mask and IS Batman.

There were genuine times in the movie when I felt it was fading and Affleck grabbed it by the scruff and went "No, you're going to give me entertainment if I have to beat it out of you".

[B]One reviewer suggested that it felt like both the Joker and Lex were planned for this movie but they cut the former and had Lex adapt some of his characteristics. Do you guys who have seen the movie think there is some validity to this idea? [/WizzB]

Dude these were my exact thoughts.

They likely cast Eisenberg because this Lex version needs to have the methodical planning of Luther...but also the insane paranoia of a Joker to suit the lore of both heros.

In any case it's the worst Lex Luther ever.

My dad just saw it and liked it. Which is good, his and my tastes are similar.

I talked to one guy outside who was smoking and he thought it was bad. He also had a batman t shirt on.

Not only that, he's one of the worst villains ever on screen. He's just cringe-worthy the entire time. What he passes for evil just seems....annoying. I hope Darkseid kills him.
