Hyperion vs. Ultraman

So we're all in a agreement that Hyperion punches through Ultraman like he was made out of cheese?

^ We are all in agreement that the Cheddacca Defense owned you. 👆

Hyperion wins.

Ultraman wins.

Cheese wins.

I am waiting on Forever evil #7. This may be the deciding factor for this thread, and where Ultraman stands period.

Ultraman is going to get his teeth kicked in by this guy. So don't get your hopes up.

Hyperion wins.

Big time.

Not really. For all of his feats, he still hasn't looked that good in combat. I really doubt he can crush Johns' Black Adam like Ultraman did.

It depends.

We don't know how powerful nu52 Black Adam is yet.

So far, BA hasn't displayed the power he was casually throwing around in the old DCU.

He casually caught Shazam's punch and stomped him. Billy had to flee from him. He also killed Circle of Eternity who were deemed above Spectre, so usual Johns wankery for Adam.

Ultraman crushed his jaw.

Due in no small part to Hickman's neglect for the character despite his so called excitement and 'big plans' for Hyperion. Other than a few instances, Hyperion has contributed very little to the team, at least nowhere near what he realistically should have done. He is, after all, a character that has been established to be at the very least on par with Superman. As it stands, Hyperion adds basically nothing to the team dynamic or to the total power output of the team as he's so underutilized it's sad really. The most interesting aspect of his character so far is his budding friendship with Thor.

I guess that's the downside to a book with such a big roster of characters. Perhaps one day he'll get his time to shine like the Sun god that others have proclaimed him to be.

Nevertheless, neither BA or Ultraman have done anything so impressive that I'd give them a clear win over him.

Yeah, it feels like Hickman is just using him for big FEATS and whatnot but when it comes to combat he folds like you wouldn't believe. "AAIEEE" against starbrand was laughable.

Hickman is already bored with Hyperion it seems. What with this new character "Sun God" (Enough superman clones already. We know you love superman hickman.), I doubt hyperion is going to get any more exposure.

Yeah, no. Killing Circle of Eternity or stomping Shazam is better than any combat feat Hyperion has till now.

I never said those feats were not impressive, just that I didn't find them to be so impressive that I'd give them a clear win. And as you said yourself, albeit more simply, one such feat was clearly a stupendous display of wankery.

Hyperion might lack combat feats, but he's proven himself to be real contender in terms of his strength and durability. If only they were utilized more practically.

🙁

Any bigger wankery than Hyperion surviving TWO UNIVERSES destroying? I speaking more about how Johns always puts Adam on a pedestal. This is the first time that any character has directly beaten Adam under Johns. In the last 15 years. Talk about consistent wankery.

Yeah, he is a feat monster. But scenes like these often leave wrong impression.

Hickman made point that he would elaborate on that particular incident to clear the air on the actual feat. Essentially that there was more to it. That hasn't come to pass yet, and I get the feeling it's fallen to the wayside as Hickman focuses on other more 'pressing' stories. It's also a feat that remains in contention and while I personally have no particular problem with it in its framed context, as Hickman decided to go big from he onset, what bothers me is that it makes his combat performances extremely inconsistent going forward. It set a false pretense that the character won't be able to escape.

And as you can see, Ultraman crushed Adam's jaw like paper.

Ultraman: ""SHAZAM"? How silly." classic.

_______

At the end of the issue, BA is still KTFO:

Ultraman wins.

And Adam did this.

But as you can see, even the Wizard seems terrified of him.

Yeah, I saw the problem from start. Hickman gave him such a big feat that no matter how he performs, it would still fall short to that feat. And you can't even use that feat as a regular feat because that would mean nobody other than a universe buster can harm him and that's obviously not true. So the character has became a conundrum as far as battle boards are concerned.
