Just because he said to Yoda, "Darth Vader will become more powerful than either of us.",it doesn't mean he intented to let Vader to grow *stronger*... Sure he had some back up plans to keep Anakin at his Sithistical feet.
But Anakin eventually learning his tricks and overcoming him is pretty much a given. Anakin would've become the *ultimate* sith, with more power than Sidious, and eventually he'd match in cunning too.
And that line seemed to indicate an awareness of that to me.

Re: Why does all literature place Sidious as strongest sith lord?

Literature has ruined other Sith Lords competing with this guy, George Lucas has ruined all chances we had at making proper Versus forum, and ruined all chances at any other Sith Lord being able to compare to him. I understand it's his universe and all, but really? It was kind of a douchebag move, he knew people would be curious, and when people ask, now Mace is top because he took Sidious down in Sabers. Starkiller, one of the MOST HATED characters in Star Wars history is now considered one of the strongest, people are putting Tanks like Vitiate and Bane and even ****in Exar Kun below him, and it's just stupid, this post was made because I'm being bitchy, I know. But these are good point's. Because of Star Wars Literature and George Lucas, we can never compare Sidious with any other single Sith Lord. Maybe Sidious has made some claims to back it up but other Sith Lord's have done far more impressing things than he has in terms of sheer force power. But now everyone is all like "Hey, he knows every force ability and can create new ones on the spot" or "Oh no, you're wrong, George Lucas wins because it's universe and Sidious beats All TROLOLOLOLOLOLOLO." It's starting to get annoying knowing that we can only compare Sidious to Luke Skywalker and several other Jedi. I'd like to know your thoughts on this, guys. Do you think Sidious deserves the title, or do you think that others should've been given the title? Give a detailed explanation why Sidious should, or should not be the most powerful Sith Lord in Star Wars History. (Not that our opinion's matter, thanks to George Lucas)(P.S. I love Star Wars EU, I just don't like the fact that they named him as strongest)

Sure, which says a lot. Sidious was disappointed Anakin wouldn't reach a level where he could be replaced, and was excited when he found someone even stronger who could take his spot- even though he'd flat-out won and controlled the galaxy, and he could've chosen to just ride that as long as he want.
Meanwhile, Dark Empire Palpatine was shopping for bodies.
Look what I found here @DarthAnt66,SW_Legend...
Read all of it! 😄 🙂 😉
The only field in which Sidious is top-notcher,it is the wide-galactic influence, cunning and military power. Who cares if Sidious conjured Force storms to raze a surface of a planet or destroyed entire fleets,to foresee and shape certain moments of the time,or to manipulate the midi-chlorians is much amazing than that feat, even so that feat cannot be used in a versus thread because Palpatine would kill himself, and there is no source he mastered that technique, only the speech about his self-confidence. Besides that,in the Dark Side Book,Clone Palpatine in the Dark Empire makes no reference to one's raw strength in the Force, but it is about Will and Anger combined at perfection to produce a Force storm. Also giving the fact that the DarkStaff was such a device to conjure wormholes,it means that someone else in the Old Republic had this knowledge to produce such things, maybe Freedon Nadd or Naga Sadow?
The Dark Side Book already says through the author that Palpatine only boasted about his mastery over the Force storms, and in fact he never managed to control them. Funny he says he learned those things,so this means that Sidious was not the sole Sith Lord to ever produce wormholes.
Imho only the movies and the TV Show should be valid sources for Star Wars, everything else is just inconsistent, on a larger scale than what GL made. If he says Sidious is the most powerful Sith Lord of all time, then he is, if he says Yoda is the most powrful Jedi he is, etc. The novels (except the Thrawn Trilogy), the Comics and especially the Games runied Star Wars to some extent if you ask me. They made Jedi far more powerful and gave them feats that are just pure BS imo. Jedi should be powerful, no doubt, but powers on a planetary scale and other insanities? Give me a break...
Disney should erase everything sans the Movies and the TV Show and keep them low, powerwise, similar to the movies, this would make everything more interesting.

We were speaking about Sidious regarding also his feats from Dark Empire series!!!
You know we are fans of the *old Star Wars with the EU*!
To be honest I have always found it funny, interesting, and an odd balance of love for the character, and quotes by GL and others, that allowed people to say Palpatine was justified and fine (expected even) of being able to wipe out fleets with a wave of the hand, while Vitiate is largely dumped upon for similar feats. (Though to compensate his feats are quickly getting to the same level of OP) Not saying Vitiate is a "great" character or anything, but given the fact that when introducing a big-bad with any sort of impact they have to be able to (usually) super-cede most if not all of the universe's previous impressive feats, or have something so odd or utterly unique to them it acts as a foil to the long-standing rules of the universe. (IE Nihilus with what is the SW version of the "Anti-Power" power)
I will openly admit I am VERY thankful for Episode 7 because of the fact it rips apart the continuity of the post-RotJ stories from the old EU. Basically taking a chunk of time in which they could have happened and claiming it as canon so they cannot exist. Though to be frank my only big issue remains largely with the DE series. It introduced very cool concepts and universe lore, but making Palpatine and Luke all but universe-busters (slight hyperbole there folks) was a huge mistake for SW universe. As such levels of power dipped into Marvel-levels of insane and no other beings had ever displayed anything remotely close to that before. Essentially riding our love for the characters, and Lucas' quotes about Sidious, all the way to the "bank" of OP Force-Powers.
Anyways, not saying I do not think Luke and Sidious are "good" but I am sincerely hoping Luke is indeed scaled far, FAR back in Episode 7. Would I complain if he, in a callback to his training with Yoda, lifts an X-wing/starfighter in a manner similar to Yoda, with concentration a tiny bit of obvious effort? No, not at all. Now will I smh if, just to prove a point, they have him lift and fling the ISD we saw crashed in the trailer for instance? Yes very much so. Anyways, there are some of my thoughts. Thank you for reading and any answering thoughts are appreciated everyone.
