Thor pulled out all stops because of the power of the two foes he was facing. Either would have taken a serious effort to defeat, but this was two at the same time. Dire situation, Thor takes it to another level and this is nothing new. We are talking about someone who can pose a challenge to uber menaces like Galactus, Mangog and Surtur.

What I funny is how you are oh so quick to credit Superman for stepping up his game in certain situations but discount, deny and minimize whenever Thor does the same.

Crazy Thor was pulling out all the stops and never did any shit like that. That means Angrir's durability sucks vs. your average high herald. He didn't do the same to Nul. Hell he hit Nul harder and Nul was ok.
Thor can't pose any type of threat to Galactus or Surtur without some serious PIS.
Classic Mangog can't be hurt by Thor but current can (barely).

It can be seen that Thor's battles with Mangog and Surtur proves that Mangog and Surtur isn't that tough (not the other way around) unless you want to argue PIS.
Thor's history is rich with battling high herald level beings. Based off this history (which has a lot of weight to it) we know that Thor cannot make Mjolnir blow through a high herald level being.
