It doesn't count because Doomsday easily beat Darkseid in that story. And since Darkseid is naturally over Thanos, that makes Thor less impressive because he had severe problems with Thanos while he had the Power Gem.
And really, if we can't use Darkseid as a shining example of consistent above herald physical might, then who can we use?

Its true that people like superman have better feats since then but he still isn't that much stronger than people like Orion who haven't got much feats since then as seen in DOTNG. Doomsday beating the shit out of J'onn and Orion in 52 seconds is beyond any high herald's capability.
