They can kill ghosts. I've said this. They kill the villages in kakariko when they turn into phantoms when twilight falls. Plus Twili beasts and the Wolf form are of the same calibur. And the wolf kills 60 ghosts in that game. They will rip the souls out of them.

Taking a bomb means you're impervious to punches, though. Plus, not only can Shadow Beasts kill ghosts, the ghosts can't hurt them back because their durability. Shadow Beast apocalypse overwhelms Middle Earth.

Anyway, the game outright shows that the Light Spirits are guardians and not some kind of world pillars. Taking the light away allows removes their protection, but it's also clearly shown that light and twilight can exist at the same time. As BR says, in that very scene we see Shadow Beasts active in the light world before the light is taken. It outright proves that taking the light is helpful, but not required for twilight to exist.

If you played the game you'd know that the scene following that gif is where Zant blankets Hyrule in Twilight. Meaning the Twibeasts came before that.

Due to the light being stolen. Twibeasts can exist before but they can't blanket Hyrule until the light is stolen.
