It was one of his worst. The 1st trek movie was far better. Super 8 is his best. Lost was awful(although I think the writer's strike damaged it a lot). Fringe was poor. Alias was poor. Mission Impossible 3 was average. A mixed bag at best. He can be inventive and has some unique ideas but I think he lacks the clarity of vision to make them coherent. It's like he starts with a brilliant idea but doesn't have the patience to flesh it out. Perhaps he'd be better doing the opening movie of a new Star Wars trilogy then passing the baton to another director.
Agreed, 'Star Trek' is the far superior film to the sequal. 'Super 8' got a lot of flak, but I enjoyed it for what it was, reminded me of 'Stand By Me', but with a sci-fi twist.
'Regarding Henry' is my favorite film of his. Though I've only seen parts of 'Six Degrees of Separation' and I hear that's fantastic when watched beginning to end.
I got sucked into Lost a couple years ago and did a marathon type of viewing over a couple months, started out interesting and ended as a steaming pile of crap, what a waste of a 100+ hours of my life.
It's crap.
The biggest problem with Super 8 is it didn't know who it was aimed at. It had a compromise between being aimed at a kids today but they couldn't relate cos it was set in the 80s and being aimed at adults who grew up on movies such as The Goonies and ET. It missed both targets but that didn't stop it being a fantastic film and totally underrated.

Hardly inspires confidence given he's done 1 great movie and a bunch of other stuff that ranges from awful to decent.
