Palpatine in the end was a weak villain and I hope the Star Wars universe selects someone befitting to be the grand threat this time.
Your favorite thing about Star Wars was a "weak villain". Odd.

I recently announced that Darth Maul was the best thing about Star Wars thus far. Every clone wars episode with him in it was amazing. His double edged lightsaber and battle was superb. Palpatine was too cowardly and weak for me to stomach any more.

Abrams will make Star Wars better. Trust me.

Wow. If I didn't know you better I'd proper respect you for this statement.

And then I'd lose respect for you quickly after this.

So you fully agree with my statement but can't set aside the emotional scarring I've done to you. Let it go, darthy.

Abrams made Star Trek better so why wouldn't he improve Star Wars ?

What now. Who is saying he'll make it worse?

SW fans by and large are hyped they're getting more Star Wars and are hoping they're improvements, if anything. Just like SW fans hoped the prequels would improve on the original three back in pre 1999.

Can't see a whole lot of people saying: "I really hope these new Star Wars films are worse than the previous ones."

Most are saying it won't ever live up to the originals.

So fans are unfairly critical of the prequels since Rots was IMO the best of the six. People don't wish for them to be worse but they don't believe they will even touch the originals in terms of quality storytelling.

I'll be there opening night as an Abrams guy. I'm betting Abrams hits this out of the park.

He might but SW comes with much higher expectations.

I'm sure the new one will be a really entertaining movie. But I just hope Abrams gets SW, so that it's more than just an action flick. And I hope the film is more than just a 2hr homage to the Originals.

Only some 40-50 year olds will feel like that. Because they have those fond memories of SW being the biggest movie franchise back in the 80's. That's not the majority.

It is in the eye of the beholder. Talk to many Star Trek diehards and they might kill Abrams if they get the chance. Star Wars is far more successful due to the shitty older Trek way IMO. It was boring and nowhere near as exciting as Star Wars but the Nufilms have changed all that.

It seems to be the majority of what I hear online. What he fools don't realize is that the point in time most of them experienced these films are as a youth so they are experiencing nostalgia. I have never been blown away by any Star Wars films but I did highly enjoy ROTS and to a lesser fashion Rotj. For Abrams to film Into Darkness and make it one of my favorite films all time with my favorite sci fi villain of all time in Khan let's just say I'm highly optimistic he's going to do awesome with the Star Wars characters.

One of my least favorite Star Wars characters gets a stand alone anthology film. I hope it's a good movie but I find this character so uninteresting I couldn't be more let down by the news.

Han Solo is popular for many of the same reasons RDJ's Iron Man is. The film will be a hit.

My complaint with Abrams/Star Wars is that I find Star Wars to be much more theatrical/Shakespearean/operasque than Star Trek.

Kenneth Brannagh would have been a better choice imo.

I think most SW fans want Abrams to deliver more than just an action flick, hopefully he pulls through.

Brannagh would have been a solid alt. Good mention.

Abrams is a solid director. But a bit too straightforward for me. But then I'm a product of the PT generation, which was very Shakespearan.

The best of the OT is more noir, I suppose.

Thanks. Brannagh is an excellent director and actor. Thor proved that he's capable of transfusing Shakespearean drama in a scifi/fantasy setting imo.

Oh god no.

You will eat your Abrams words. Abrams delivered a multitude of memorable moments in his Trek films as well as giving the franchise truly formidable villains. He's perfect for Star Wars. Mark my words.

Apparently you Vader diehards might get a little dose of Darth Vader back on the big screen for Rogue One.

Of course he would. There was never any doubt.

You Vader fans creep me out. Hayden ruined this character with the prequels. He is beyond redemption.
