Star Wars: The Force Awakens

So the Star Wars website databank has updated to include a shitload of TFA entries. Among them is

Spoiler:
the Starkiller Base, which houses a weapon capable of destroying "star systems."

Looks like the First Order is gonna pack a punch.

First Order looks truly menacing. Abrams is going to deliver and give us the best Star Wars yet. Still can't wait to see Snoke.

Abrams is more of a collaborator than Lucas. I told you all Abrams would make this better. When I'm proven right come December I expect numerous apologies.

The

Spoiler:
Sun Crusher
?

More likely, something inspired by it.

Not sure how I feel about that, I mean it sounds cool and it likely will be, but it also sounds a lot like EPIV and EPVI, "Omg, this faction has a WMD!"

From the sounds of it, I expect that Starkiller Base fires the weapon rather than it merely being a ship that is stored there.

Hopefully they move away from super weapons after this film.

Or!!!!!!

They could create an even biggerer super weapon.

Like I've kept saying and is clearly evident in this post, you've already made up your mind to bandwagon onto the SW fandom after this.

That's a fact no matter how good or bad this movie will be.

mhmm

Sounds like SWTOR.

Quan is mad that the starkiller base is more powerful than red matter.

Yeah, that's why I say I'm ambivalent about TFA. I appreciate that Abrams is making some effort to step outside the usual paradigm and give us something unique, but upon closer inspection, it seems like many of the alterations are cosmetic or superficial. The First Order might as well be the Empire, the Resistance might as well be the Rebellion, Kylo is Vader, Jakku is Tatooine, etc. and so forth.

I'm hoping he gives us something substantively different. Which is why my 3 favorite eras are the PT, OT, and NJO. All three share some pivotal similarities but are substantively different across the board.

I am always honest. I thought Dracula untold from the preview would be awesome but it stunk. I won't lie. Abrams track record with me is amazing so I have faith unlike yourself.

If something is more powerful than red matter why would I care ? I am objective unlike most on this site.

LOL So now you're going to blatantly lie and pretend I'm not looking forward to this?

Your post made it clear you've already made up your mind. In fact you're already telling people you're waiting for their apologies LOL

All fair observations 👆

I am making a prediction because I believe in it. You don't have the faith I have in Abrams. You never have and never will. He makes films better. This has always been my Force Awakening party. Are you willing to predict this will be the best Star Wars film ever ?

Until you posted the superweapon thing, I hadn't given it much thought TBH; while I didn't expect something completely 100% original considering SW has a long history and Abrams' take on ST, those similarities you've mentioned never clicked.

Why should I have faith in Abrams? Even Joss Whedon a guy whose work I usually love, didn't exactly smash it with Age of Ultron.

I don't suck up to people like you do.

LOL What's that supposed to mean? He makes other people's films better, because he can't make his own?

It's a good job then he seems to be pretty much copying the OT with this 👆

Nah you're just a Bandwagoner. You couldn't possibly have the anticipation for this film that lovers of the OT and PT do.

No, don't be dumb. I don't even know what the plot of the film is yet.

Of course you'll say this is the best SW film ever. You say that pile of crap Genysis is better than T2 just because you were bandwagoning on that as well LOL

Don't mind me barging in on your convo, but I actually clicked long ago. They were going completely over the top with the whole "practical effects" thing IMO. It's just to be as much like the OT (when CGI didn't exist) as possible.

Then like Tempest pointed out, they've made a brand new Planet which looks exactly like a classic OT one.

Now this Solar System destroying super weapon is just getting a bit over the top in it's similarities.

Don't get me wrong though, I'm sure it'll be a fun film full of nostalgia to the OT. But I would personally prefer something as different as possible while still being Star Wars, which is what Lucas always excelled at giving us. Just look at the difference between ANH and ESB, let alone the OT and PT.

Yep. I expect homages and recurring elements/characters, but that's why my interest in the Star Wars franchise has historically involved the OT, PT, and NJO. None of them are without flaws, but each tells a very different story/narrative while utilizing {and often subverting/deconstructing} similar elements to make each story seem somewhat familiar.

I'm open to TFA, but am becoming concerned its going to be an OT rehash.
