A build based off the cartoon, The Jackie Chan Adventures...:
SHANG CHI (Jackie Chan)
There really is no other choice here.
CASSANDRA CAIN (Jade Chan)
Shang would be her role model, that doesn't mean she isn't going to do her own thing, and drive him nuts most times.
STICK (Uncle)
Able to sagely advise or smack upside the head. He’ll get do do both, w. Shang and Cassandra.
FAT COBRA (Tohru)
Starts off working for the bad guys before making a timely heel-face turn.
COL. RICK FLAG
(CPT. Augustus Black)
Heads the task force dedicated to stopping the bad guys, and their plans for world domination.
BIG DADDY DANGER (El Toro Fuerte)
A high flying, demon fighting luchador. A friendly rival of Shang’s.
REPTIL (Paco)
Big Daddy’s number one fan. Cassandra’s number one friend.
YUKIO (Viper)
Sneak thief and opportunist. Helps the good guys though, if only to save her own skin. Has major UST w. Shang.
EDWIN ALVA (Valmont)
The brainy bad guy, looking to gather and use ancient artifacts to bring some bad ass demons to earth and control them, or at least get a favor in return.
THE ENFORCERS (The Enforcers)
Too good a match not to use. Alva’s henchmen. Fairly competent despite the good guys continually kicking their asses.
FIN FANG FOOM (Shendu)
The first demon brought back to earth. Looks like a big ass dragon, so yeah, FFF gets the job.
Alright, my version of a new Infinity Watch
Wonder Woman w/Soul Gem(team leader)
She's got a strong will and some mystical protections against having her mind tampered with, so I figure she's got a pretty good chance to resist the naturally corruptive nature of the Soul Gem. She has a pretty commanding presence and good tactical skills so she should do well as a leader. It is possible that she'll be somewhat weakened by using the gem just as Warlock was, but she's skilled as Hell and has some good gear going for her to help offset that possibility. Also, she's someone that could be counted on to use the gem's one hit kill capacity if the situation if she or the team ends up in a tight spot.
Raven w/Mind Gem
The gem should increase her powers across the board since they seem to be rooted in empathy. Her dad could obviously be problematic, but with her own increased powers and back up from Diana and the Soul Gem they should be able to keep the gems safe from him(Warlock w/gem was able to solo Mephisto in Hades after all).
Longshot w/Power Gem
Yeah I know it seems weird to make the guardian of the Power Gem someone without much physical power, but that's kind of the point. The gem is going to make Longshot a cl 100 anyway so he doesn't need much physical power to start with. Meanwhile, the Power Gem should ramp his luck power up to crazy levels. His luck power also discourages his behaving selfishly, which is a nice counter to the possibility of making someone basically unbeatable physically and then having them turn bad.
Black Tarantula w/Space Gem
Pip the Troll has strengh somewhere in the area of Spiderman and was able to give Earth heroes fits when they clashed with the IW because surprise attacks packing that level of power can be quite effective. Black Tarantula is flat out stronger, faster, and more agile than Peter with a healing factor and optic blasts to boot. And he's a lot smarter and more skilled than Pip so he should be able to use it in numerous ways that the Troll couldn't. He's also pretty savage when push comes to shove, so he shouldn't have an issue bringing the pain to opponents just the way Nightcrawler did to Sabretooth if he needs to.
Doop w/Time Gem
Gamora got the Time Gem because it's super dangerous to use and Warlock wanted someone who could defend it without needing to, I'm giving it to Doop for the same reason. He can just stick the gem in Doop Land and just never take it out. Even without the gem, he'll be able to backup the rest of the team for basically whatever they need. And in an absolute worst case scenario where he does need the gem, he's already got some undefined temporal powers so he's already got some knowledge of potential temporal events so he should be able to use the gym in small ways without much chance of an issue arising.
Franklin Richards w/Reality Gem
I'm well aware that it seems "cheap" to give the gem to someone like Franklin, but he really does seem like the best choice to play the role of my IW's "secret member". By giving him a gem, the FF basically becomes unofficial members of the team if someone starts trying to collect all the gems. Like Thanos he's so powerful that relatively few people even have a chance of forcibly taking the gem from him, and he's one of the few "heroes" with the ability to control/counter the gem's effects if it becomes absolutely necessary.
A mashup of Marvel misfits based on the self aware characters of DC’s Team 13, who all know just how low down the totem pole they all are...:
SOFIA STRANGE (Traci 13)
Didnt know Doc Strange had a daughter? Dont feel bad, nobody knows!
MOON BOY (Anthro)
While Devil Dinosaur’s gone on to headline a critically acclaimed title (with a new partner no less), Moon Boy...has not!
PIRATE BEN GRIMM (Cpt. Fear)
This kooky concept (Ben as Blackbeard) had the bad luck to debut in the same classic FF issue as Dr. Doom, who took all the attention.
HINDSIGHT LAD (Genius Jones)
Even trying to make this poor shlub “darker and edgier” just seemed like throwing more gas on the bonfire.
NIKKI (Infectious Lass)
Like her fellow, original Guardians of The Galaxy, no one cares about this 31st century hottie. Thanks a lot, Chris Pratt!
HANNIBAL KING (I...Vampire)
Getting played by Ryan Reynolds didnt translate to Deadpool level comics popularity for this good guy bloodsucker. Or any kind of popularity really.
DR. ARTHUR NAGAN (Pryemaul)
DC pretty much cornered the talking monkey market in all its variations. This old Defenders villain never had a chance.
Ran across a book called New Excalibur. Had a line up i thought would be interesting to build with...:
SUPERMAN (Captain Britain)
Sadly, the closest DC has to a national hero is...The Beefeater. I wanted a square jawed, heroic hero to switch out. This Supes has look, the flying brick aspect, and is rocking the right color scheme.
MERCY GRAVES (Sage)
Didn't try and match powers here. Sage/Mercy have a similar look in certain depictions, and matching professional demeanors. Both formerly worked for prominent bad guys (Sebastian Shaw/Lex Luthor). There’s a nice symmetry in Mercy working for Supes here, taking care of his day to day, so he can lead the team. She serves as pilot/driver, has plenty of connections, and brings h2h/weapons skills.
JOHN CONSTANTINE (Pete Wisdom)
I’ve switched Wisdom for Constantine before, so doing the reverse here. Both are hard smoking, suit wearing brits. Both deal with magical menaces. Both have dated super hot costumed heroines. One’s a mage and one’s a mutant.
ARGENT (Dazzler)
Like Dazzler, Argent has a nice power set; she’s very pretty, and criminally underused by her comics company. Both were also products of their time, in their original designs.
NIGHTFIRE (Nocturne)
Replacing Nocturne, daughter of Nightcrawler/Scarlet Witch, and former dimension hopping Exile, with Nightfire, daughter of Nightwing/Starfire, coming from Earth 22.
VALIDUS (Juggernaut)
For villain turned hero Juggernaut, i wanted a character that really had that “unstoppable” vibe that Juggs has. Validus really feats the bill, i believe.
A team, supporting cast, and rogues gallery based on The Power Puff Girls...:
SUPERGIRL
Bubbles
The bright eyed blonde
HOPE SUMMERS
Blossom
The rambunctious redhead.
DONNA TROY
Buttercup
The battling brunette.
DR. WILL MAGNUS
Prof. Utonium
The far out father figure.
ALYSSA MOY
Miss Keane
The intrepid instructor
J JONAH JAMESON
The Mayor
The mustachioed man in charge.
MARY JANE WATSON
Miss Bellum
The Mayor’s amazing assistant.
ULTRA HUMANITE
Mojo Jojo
The megalomaniacal monkey.
NASTALTHIA LUTHOR
Princess Morebucks
Lex’s hella rich spoiled daughter.
THE BANNERS
The Gangreen Gang
Gamma powered goon squad.
STANLEY AND HIS MONSTER
Fuzzy Lumpkin
He’s really not all bad.
THE SYMBIOTES
The Amoeba Boys
Ooey. Gooey. Homocidal.
DESIRE
Him
Shows up periodically for the lulz.
A villain team of DC baddies based on a villain team of Marvel baddies; the original Brotherhood of Evil Mutants...:
DR. POLARIS (Magneto)
Polaris actually debuted 3 months before Mags, but is seen as the knockoff. He’s still DCs premiere magnetic powerhouse, and making a power play, by starting his own team.
MR. TOAD (The Toad)
Toad on toad switch here. Mr. Toad’s found a new bad guy to stooge for. He does all he can to keep Polaris, who can get schizoid when stressed, focused. He also lends a hand in a fight when he can.
CHUNK (The Blob)
A former foe then friend, of Wally West, Chunk’s a reluctant villain here, coerced by Polaris. He’s more invulnerable than Blob, only hurt by white dwarfstar matter, and can send ppl/things into a pocket dimension thats inside his own body.
SILVER SORCERESS & BLUE JAY (Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver)
Not siblings, but as seen by the pic, these two have been linked ever since they came to Earth 1. They've done the heel/face revolving door, and its no surprise they’d throw in w. this team, if only to change their minds later on.
DR. PSYCHO (Mastermind)
Both these guys are squirrely little (very little in Dr. Psycho’s case) mind screw illusionists, and have used their powers to take advantage of women. Dr. Psycho is definitely the Starscream on the team.
WARP (Vanisher)
While their powers dont work the same way, both these guys are incredibly powerful teleporters, and thats not a power to be underestimated.
BLINDER (Unus the Untouchable)
Blinder and Unus have the same basic power, highly effective personal force fields. Blinder was a career criminal even before he got powers via the Big Bang event, so he brings a pragmatic viewpoint to the team.
These Marvel Heroes aren't really forgotten, though some might be best forgotten.
None of them are A-listers though, thats for sure.
Anyway, this team’s based on DCs Forgotten Heroes...:
NICK FURY JR. (Rick Flag)
For someone Marvel tried so blatantly to get into 616 continuity, this Sam L. Jackson wanna be didn't exactly set the world on fire.
APE X (Congorilla)
A guy who turns into a super strong, energy blasting gorilla by putting on a magic luchador mask. Srsly, how is he not popular?!?
REPTIL (Animal Man)
No one at Marvel really has Animal Man’s power set, but, Reptil has a pretty cool/unique one, and, he’s never hit the big time. Plus, the above pic looks like a crazy ass Animal Man cover.
MOLE MAN (Cave Carson)
Moley’s one of those old villains who never had a modern resurgence, aside from being homaged in The Incredibles. He’d work w. the heroes to safeguard his Kingdom.
MARRINA (Dolphin)
Marrina started out as a pretty, naive character w. a mysterious origin, like Dolphin. The more we’ve learned about Marrina though, the less interesting she’s become.
STINGRAY (Dane Dorance)
What can i say that hasn't been said?
RICK JONES (Rip Hunter)
This Avengers Forever take on Rick could have become Marvel’s time & space hopping time master, something Marvel doesnt otherwise have. It was never followed up on, of course.
MR. IMMORTAL (Immortal Man)
He doesn't get a new power every time he comes back, like Immortal Man, but i doubt that would help Mr. Immortal be any more popular.
The Avengers Forever (AF) maxi series fielded an interesting team i wanted to try a DC version of...:
SNAPPER CARR (Rick Jones)
Snapper is DCs Rick, so easy pick. In this scenario he’s internalized the power of the Worlogog, like Rick did the Destiny Force, and pulled a wonky time tossed JLA team together to help him.
AQUAMAN & MERA (Giant Man & The Wasp)
In (AF), the present day Hank & Jan are in a good place. Present day Aquaman & Mera are NOT. The Marvel heroes looked at past, messed up Hank and were glad things got better. The DC heroes look at past, more innocent Aquaman and wonder how things went sideways.
AQUAMAN (Yellowjacket)
Past Hank was a mentally unstable jerk in (AF). Past Aquaman is the stereotypical goody goody hero of his time. While Hank saw his future self & Jan as jokes, Aquaman sees his future self and Mera and feels sad and confused.
BATMAN (Captain America)
The (AF) Cap was reeling from the Secret Empire storyline. He was demoralized and about to quit being a hero. Batman was plucked from time just minutes before getting his back broken by Bane. He’s physically and mentally exhausted after being run into the ground by the villain. This isn't Bats anywhere near his best.
ARSENAL (Hawkeye)
(AF) Hawkeye was from the end of The Kree/Skrull War, when he took up his old identity again. Arsenal is from the start of The Tornado’s Path storyline, right before he becomes a JLAer, and starts calling himself Red Arrow.
DAWNSTAR & WILDFIRE (Songbird & Captain Marvel)
The Marvel heroes were from a future where they not only became Avengers, but were together, romantically. The DC heroes are from a future where they’ve joined the JLA. The former Legionnaires have been together quite some time, though.
The Shadowpact was an odd team...
...so a Marvel version wound up odd as well...:
DEVIL SLAYER (Nightmaster)
These two characters are tailor made to swap out. Similar looks and complimentary power sets.
MONKEY C (Detective Chimp)
Ran across this little guy and really liked him for the team. He has a photo-dioramic memory, so whatever he sees, he can do!
DARK DEVIL (Blue Devil)
Both these guys came about their power sets in rather convoluted ways, not entirely magical (exoskeleton/inherited powers), but wound up w. demonic abilities and looks.
DARKSTAR (Nightshade)
Different sources for, but similar powers, in the end. Both are adept dark matter/dark force manipulators.
TATTERDEMALION (Ragman)
A lucky find, in that both characters share a similar motif. Ragman’s way more powerful, but, in the above cropped pic, Tatterdemalion’s taking on both Spider-man and Werewolf by Night; he’s also fought Ghost Rider, so he’s not afraid of a one sided fight.
CLEA (Enchantress)
Former disciple of Dr. Strange. Umar is her mom, Dormammu is her uncle, and she once ruled the Dark Dimension. Clea has both white AND black magic cred.
I’ve done the Kooky Quartet, so wanted to try the OG Avengers line up...:
HERCULES (Thor)
DC doesnt really do Norse Gods (obviously), but they do Olympian. I love that they got around to homaging the 70s Hercules title in Wonder Woman's book.
STEEL (Iron Man)
Armored characters dont get much respect at DC, but Steel is top of the heap in that category. A scientist and tech powerhouse.
THE ATOM (Ant Man)
I like this mask better than a full cowl, and he was also able to go around at full size instead of shrunk for no particular reason. Ray’s also one of DCs brightest minds.
BUMBLEBEE (Wasp)
I could see her signing on as Ray’s research assistant.
DAMAGE (The Hulk)
The new guy, but he’s already established himself as a loose cannon, and fought some of DCs biggest guns (Supes, WW, Flash...).
SGT ROCK (Captain America)
And joining soon after the team forms, a time displaced Sgt. Rock, who is DCs WWII era Captain America.
Coming full circle, by doing a Marvel team based on The Terrifics, a DC team based on the Fantastic Four...:
BLUE MARVEL (Mr. Terrific)
The black guy genius.
BM has the brains to compete here, and brings actual major league powers to the table. And that jacket? Very Terrific-y.
MONICA RAMBEAU (Phantom Girl)
The obligatory female.
Monica can turn intangible (and invisible); She can make and break force fields, manipulate energy...she’s a good, even superior, pick here.
SUPER SKRULL (Metamorpho)
The elemental powerhouse.
SS’s power set is a good stand in for Metamorpho’s imo. Visually he’s just as exciting. SS has worked w. heroes before, but is still one to keep an eye on.
IMPOSSIBLE MAN (Plastic Man)
The goofy bastard.
Not many characters can out cartoon Plas, but w. total molecular control and power mimicry, Impy can. This is a space/time/reality hopping team, so he fits in.
