Shaw's "Plan B" was to absorb the nuclear energy from the sub's nuclear reactor and then detonate himself like a nuclear bomb, thereby starting WW3/the 'Age of Mutants' and installing himself as some sort of leader of the new world order.

Kevi B really didn't have to amp to beat him. If he wouldn't have ran his plan would've likely sank, probably just like his life. In a pre set setting like over water MOS wins all day. It's not hard. Him amping on the reactor really just was feat to show how much damage he could could take and then put out.

Bluntly, K Bac Shaw Shab (TM) didn't need the amp to beat mags but MOS can bfr him, in the same setting.

Thinking about it. If Mags wasn't so hell bent on seeing Shaw mano-a -mano he could have just sunk the sub after he saw Shaw in that room. Mags wanted to prove a point though. That point was killing his mothers killer face to face. He's lucky Xavier had his back.
