What do you mean?
If someone states they're only discussing Legends then I wouldn't say that. But I would still point out there's no point in looking for ways in which Legends and TCW go hand in hand. Because they don't. The movies and TCW have always ignored and accepted whatever they feel like from the EU.

Well clearly you missed the whole statement from Lucasfilm which said that only the films and TCW are canon. All other past EU material is not and has the name "Legends" now. But all future EU material will be part of official canon.
Sorry to interject but as far as the Maul and Grievous fight goes, I say.
1. Maul had been tired from his incarceration, and electrocutions etc etc.
2. Every lightsaber duelists fighting style is different. Grievous isn't better than Palpatine by a long shot, but Maul has never faced someone like Grievous before, and Grievous's physical kick is certainly stronger than Palpatine's.

Now that everything is split into Legends and Disney Cannon, your statement is valid.
I was going off the old mindset of anything that doesn't contradict G/T Cannon is cannon. In that mindset, it is important when the cartoon overrides the EU and it can stir up controversies (IE Maul being Iridonian or Dathomirian).
Even with this new system, Legends fans will take notice whenever the new Disney Cannon contradicts the old material. People are not going to just forget all of the EU they've been exposed to pre-Disney.

You are misunderstanding my statement. Perhaps I shouldn't have used the word retcon. This is, to the best of my knowledge, the first action that takes place in a Disney Star Wars medium that contradicts the cannon of the past.
As I mentioned in my previous post, I'm not counting Star Wars Rebels contradicting TFU1 because SWR hasn't come out yet.

With the new system Legends material has finished. Nothing new that comes out will be part of Legends, so there's no point in thinking about Legends getting retconned every time something new comes out. (Although technically you have a point in that TCW was considered part of Legends canon as well as Official Canon).

No offence intended but I don't see any retcon at all. Palpatine's just speaking figuratively.
Maul's mother brought him to Palpatine to get him away from Talzin, hence Maul was "inadvertently" a gift from Talzin since she was the root cause.
