Pound For Pound - Herald Class

Started by MF DELPH11 pages

I think Superman is the top herald pound for pound because despite not being as versatile as his peers (Surfer, Thor, Genis, Alan Scott, etc) he can still get most jobs, if not all jobs, done, through creative uses of the limited abilities he has. He does the most with the least. Surfer isn't tops pound for pound because he has almost the most, if not the most, tools at his disposal in the tier. He wouldn't have to vibrate at a certain harmonic and/or rub his hands together at multiples of C to get certain effects. He could just wave his hand or channel the power of cosmic effortlessly for the same effect. Same goes for Thor/Mjolnir or the Rings/Bands bearers. Superman, given what he has, punches the furthest out of his comparative weight class in spite of his seeming powerset limitations. That doesn't make him the top herald, but it makes him the most effective given the smaller tool box he has. He's like an Allen wrench that can somehow program a computer and perform laser surgery.

Surfer would still hang him out to dry

Being top p4p doesn't mean you can beat everyone else on the list. If Supes is Mayweather, Surfer's Andre Ward and Thor's Wladimir Klitschko (metaphorically).

Good post

Can alan even be considered herald level?

Yes

Eh, you could easily say he's low trans imo.

Where in your post didn't you say anything about Star heart Alan? You said ALAN.

This is why people say you don't know context. What else would i be referring to?

Alan at his standard non starheart using self. Not when he's all amped up going insane because that wouldn't be called Alan.

In Carver's defense, when people on the site refer to Alan's degree's of power they'll usually refer to him as Sentinel Alan or Full Starheart Alan to differentiate from Base Alan. Like Superman and Sun-Dipped Superman, Thor and Warrior Madness Thor (or the King Thor variants), or Zemo and Moonstone Zemo. The powered up state isn't always implied.

Meh maybe i should've elaborated.

Surfer, Thor and Superman are the top dogs, and it's hard to choose between them imo. They all have strengths and weakness that balance them out against the other two, so not sure. You can make an argument for any of the three beating either of the two others.

I'd be adding Majestic to that list and similarly no way to differentiate. Swamp Thing is another possibility in terms of pound for pound power (though not strength)

Alan's last appearance pre DCNu was in monument point battling the god that the JSA had released. A god who had absorbed the power of every hero present and it fell on Alan to defeat it. Terrific told him he always had the ability to control the full starheart and he cut loose and won then he sacrificed his energy to save his son Todd.

That combined with an earlier appearance post Brightest day where he he was talking to Todd on the moon after summoning various entities from all over the magic realms and them obeying him like dogs made it pretty clear that post Brightest Day he has the full starheart always (no amp). He stated in that issue that he "holds back" to keep some will always focused on keeping the starheart in check.

Based on this Alan wasn't Herald level pre Flashpoint any more. Up to brightest day yes not post.

Superman would make what Thor did to that cosmic eunuch in B&T look like a love tap if they ever fought in comics.

Written down Silver surfer vs one if not the best outside of King Thor Thors. OK

I guess that makes them even, since Surfer did trash Thor in their very first encounter.
