clearly Suicide Squad is the film that DCEU needs right now, but not the one we all deserve.. 😛 but seriously though, do you just want the film to be really good and hopefully head the DCEU in the right direction?

And that's what WB should want more than box office. They need goodwill, not box office right now. With goodwill the box office will come later.

I believe more money.. it was rumored that Will Smith overpriced himself for the ID4 sequel... but who knows maybe he just didn't want to do it,

Now this, to me, is a sign that they're learning. They managed to give you a decent dose of the kind of action you can expect, but without showing too much, like they did with the Batman vs Superman trailers. This film really looks like it could be shaping up to be the one that genuinely puts the DCEU on the right track.
It won't matter if it doesn't equal BvS numbers, as long as it gets mass positive reaction from critics and fans. As you yourself have mentioned, if people like this film and really get on board with this universe, they'll make plenty of money down the line.
Basically, it's more important that this film is a win with fans and critics than a win at the box office. However, if this film does end up being really good, it's going to make me hate Snyder even more.
