Mnemon started going nuts trying to bust through the magnetic field. Which he almost did before Superman (and then GL Stewart) contained him and before the magnetic field fully released. I think a re-reading of the actual comic itself instead of cherry-picked scans and irrelevant shady emails would serve this discussion far more...
