Opening up trade/commerce with Cuba could potentially be good for the economy. Not on the scale like Nixon's move with China, but it still can't hurt.So what's your beef, or is it just cos Obama?
Cause its a complete lost cause, this was his same line of approach when he came in office to have open talks with Iran, and they gave him the finger.
Cuba has nothing we need, nor can they afford anything we have. He should focus on I dunno, maybe Mexico relations and drugs traffic.
He is just doing this cause he is losing power in less then 18 days.

I don't see how trying to have open talks with Iran was a poor move even if it ultimately failed. Good relations have to have a beginning.
Sure we do and sure they can. Cuba's highly rich in sugar, which is superior to corn syrup if the pries are comparable and they have a growing pharmaceutical industry. America could tap both of those to its and Cuba's benefit. Not to mention all the Coca-Cola, iPods and American cars that could be shipped/sold over there.
It could potentially be like having a tiny Hispanic China just 100ish miles off the coast.
All this is going to do is give the Castro regiem more power and money to manipulate it to favor then and hurt their people. Obama literally could not run a dairy queen, much less help the people of Cuba. This will give the Cuban people zero freedom to the Cuban people. The US gets nothing out of this.
Nothing Obama is doing is going to lead the Cuban people to freedom. The only thing this does is empower the Cuban government. The other 190 countries in the world that do trade with Cuba has not brought any of their people closer to freedom.
Cuba is not going to change.

It's just resuming diplomatic relations with Cuba and embassies being opened so far. So I really don't see why your shorts are twisted up over this.
edit: Is it over this? http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2014/12/17/obama-hands-cuba-castros-major-victory-but-congress-can-still-stop-it/
You know Monstanto and the corn farmers aint going to allow Cuba to replace Corn Syrup and High Fructose corn syrup. Besides it would not be cheaper, that is the whole point of corn syrup, because its insanely cheap, and Monsanto is not going to lose profits to Cuba.
Are you really thinking that all that tangible crap from Coke, to iPods is going to change the peoples lives, they want freedom, not American pointless toys which give them nothing towards true freedom.

That's good, they can then sell the corn to make bio fuels and we can have real sugar in more of our foods, which is healthier and taste better. Massive wins all around. Go Obama!
I'm talking from an economical standpoint and opening trade with Cuba is a good move. I have no desire to force my views on Cubans and their way of life. Let them deal with their own domestic problems.

So enriching a country that oppresses its people is a good move to you.

We deal financially with other countries that oppress its people, yet here you are not being upset that we buy oil from Saudi Arabia (and they're our buddy-friends), which ranks as one of the worst of the 10 worst countries in terms of human rights violations. Why?

Very good point. U.S. has a long history of this behavior. We even cooperated with Stalin in. WW2 and he was as bad or worse than Hitler.

Rob I refuse to believe you are this naive. I think you blindly follow anything Obama says and does, or just playing devils advocate to an extreme.

Cmon fellow country bro, don't fall in line with this thinking, in no way shape or form is this good for the people of Cuba, or US.

I didn't say it was a good thing. The U.S. has a long history of dealing economically with countries like Cuba. Human rights violations are not at the top of the agenda with American foreign policy...in most cases.

So what horrors are going to happen exactly with opening diplomatic relations with Cuba?
The alarmist in me just isn't screaming over this, I guess.
