Cuba

The problem is we are not supposed to be giving anything to Cuba, not making it easier on them, we should be tightning sanctions on them, not loosening them. Making trade with them enriches the government and oppresses the people further.

Rob you really are on the wrong side of this, I would think you would want those people to be free.

By removing the sanctions we have with them just gives them more power to oppress the people.

How? Do you see Castro/regime drowning Cuban citizens in Coca-Cola or something? I must be missing something.

Sanctions hurt the Cuban people more than the hurt those in power. Those in power do not go without.

But if it's a humanitarian angle: Why do we give Saudia Arabia billions and there's no issue there, when they're one of the worst top 10 human rights violators on the planet and we call them "friend"?

Cause its a complete lost cause, this was his same line of approach when he came in office to have open talks with Iran, and they gave him the finger.

Cuba has nothing we need, nor can they afford anything we have. He should focus on I dunno, maybe Mexico relations and drugs traffic.

He is just doing this cause he is losing power in less then 18 days.

"Lost cause" would describe the embargo perfectly.

Cuba is important because it's a country of about ten million people driving 50 year old cars. These millions of people are all looking for new cars. European cars are too expensive, and because of the embargo American car companies can't sell to them, so who's going to get the deal?

China, of course.

The kicker, they'll probably be selling re-badged Chinese made American cars to the Cubans and eventually their own Chinese brands, as the Chinese Automotive industry is about to explode. Also expect to see Chinese cars in US showrooms soon.

Not really connected to the story, but if you like cars and documentaries, I recommend "Yank Tanks" 2002. It's how Cubans scrape by keeping these 50-60 year old American cars on the road, some of the ingenuity is epic.

Cubans are the Germans of Latin America.

Sounds like a neat movie.

Also, it isn't accurate to say that the talks with Iran have been a failure. So far, we're closer than ever to reaching a deal that might avoid a war that no one wants and keeps Iran accountable.

Why are we giving the Saudi's money? This is news to me.

Chinese cars suck tbh, they should buy Korean.

We buy from them; about 13% of our imported oil comes from SAU. That means lots and lots of $$$ to SAU in helping them oppress their people, if that's the way you're looking at the Cuban diplomatic negotiations.

That's Obama's fault, he could stop that in a heartbeat and increase domestic production and allow new drilling here at home.

Oil sales are one thing, but we also sell a shit ton of weapons to the Saudis. Most of those are meant to keep the peace at home, not to defend against foreign attack. We're basically funding their police state.

No, they should buy American cars because right now the only reason to keep the embargo in place is to appease the aging Cuban exiles who give Republicans about a million votes in Miami-Dade County every election because the Republicans (and older Cubans) are too stubborn to see that the policy has failed to bring any change to Cuba.

If the collapse of the Soviet Union didn't bring the Castros to their knees, nothing will. The only solution is to swallow our pride and start buying sugar and selling cars.

We wont buy sugar because of evil companies like Monsanto rule over the corn industry with an iron fist and love their profits of cheap unhealthy sweetners.

👆

Cuba exports a lot of medical minds all over the world. Plus it's a good thing having a friendly country right across the river. And have any of you seen those Cuban women ?

Rob I refuse to believe you are this naive. I think you blindly follow anything Obama says and does, or just playing devils advocate to an extreme.
it's actually the opposite.. damn near every thread you make is trying to smear obama. you are obsessed with the guy tbh.

Useless move by Obama.

Now Castro will be richer than ever, and Cuba gets the Puerto Rico/Guam treatment (becoming a US dummy state).

It's Obama's fault the US is allies with Saudi Arabia and has been doing business with them since at least the early 30's; barring that little hiccup in 73?

This makes sense to you?

What part of "Obama is to blame" don't you understand?
