Pre-Disney MCU history says differently.

They made Iron Man with Robert Downey. People forget what a massive risk that was.

And they took out a massive loan to get that made. By the time of GOTG, they were already massively bankable.

Yeah, it was a huge risk but it was still one of the most prominent heroes in pop culture compared to a literal team of nobodies.

I mean, you might be right but I doubt we would have gotten the exact same charm and quality present in the movie we got.

Yes. Iron Man wasn't exactly a nobody before MCU.

One of the TOP 3 Avengers.

Successful team & solo books.

Successful cartoons.

GotG were obscure af.

Even as a comic fan I only really cared about the guardians in like the infinity war comics. Loved em after the movie.

I only really knew Iron Man from his 90's cartoon.

I started following them and the cosmic side after Thanos Imperative, tbh.

They need to have some fights during the day for the next Godzilla film from Hollywood.

Next Godzilla film is him taking on Kong but guess you could call that a shared film

Which really upsets me because they did some wtf beautiful day pieces on skull island and i would think fur would be harder to cgi than scales

I hope Zilla will beat the crap out of Kong.

The only reason i mentioned a fight during the day is, So far we've had them during the night

the 2014 film fights you could only just see the monster's and with this sequel it was done alot better and yeah Kong: Skull Island has been the only film in this universe that has been set during the day.

There's something rather heartening about the fact that Warner Brothers was prepared to hand over the reins of a stonking great blockbuster (and, lets face it, a potential money-spinning franchise) to a sophomore director.

You're overselling him IMO. IM didn't really have any general public recognition before the movies. He was definitely behind Spidey, Cap, the X-men, Thor, the FF, Hulk, or the big 7 of the Justice League. Definitely above the Guardians though.

His book sales wee OK. They ranged from meh to good depending on the year. For example, here are sales from Jan 1995:
https://www.comichron.com/monthlycomicssales/1995/1995-01Capital.html

He came in at 83rd place behind people like Elektra, Catwoman, and Robin with 16,400 units sold.

He gained some popularity in the 2000s thanks to news circulating about a movie in development (this started as early as 1996 which is why I linked 1995 earlier, but he jumped around between all kinds of big name producers, writers, and actors before hopping back to Marvel) but he was still behind everyone listed earlier with 44,519 units sold.

Then his sales, right after the release of the first movie (68,995).

EDIT: Should have read the comment chain. No one is talking about his general popularity. Yeah he has always been bigger than the Guardians and made them possible IMO, though his first movie was definitely a bigger risk.

Yeah. Iron Man (In the comics) was hardly ever A-List for the Vast Majority of his Existence. He was doing good to keep it at C-list for the most of it. And He did NOT have a Successful Toon Series on his own. Iron Man is now viewed thru Rose Tinted Robert Downey JR Glasses.

Godzilla Stomps.

Iron Man really became a main focus in comicbooks with Civil War. I wouldn't have put Thor much above him in popularity but I agree he was a lot less famous than the X-men, Spidey and Hulk to say the least.

He was like Green Lantern. Big in the comics but not known to general movie audiences.

In fact GL was probably more well known from cartoons.

Iron Man could barely keep his own comic afloat thru the 70's. 80's & 90's. Much like Thor.

Why are talking about comic book MCU films in a Godzilla thread?

Fuh if I know.

I'm guessing it's because people think it's Engame's fault this didn't make lots of money rather than the fact that it was shit.
