Pre-Disney MCU history says differently. They made Iron Man with Robert Downey. People forget what a massive risk that was.
And they took out a massive loan to get that made. By the time of GOTG, they were already massively bankable.
I mean, you might be right but I doubt we would have gotten the exact same charm and quality present in the movie we got.

Which really upsets me because they did some wtf beautiful day pieces on skull island and i would think fur would be harder to cgi than scales
The only reason i mentioned a fight during the day is, So far we've had them during the night
the 2014 film fights you could only just see the monster's and with this sequel it was done alot better and yeah Kong: Skull Island has been the only film in this universe that has been set during the day.

Yes. Iron Man wasn't exactly a nobody before MCU.One of the TOP 3 Avengers.
Successful team & solo books.
Successful cartoons.
GotG were obscure af.
His book sales wee OK. They ranged from meh to good depending on the year. For example, here are sales from Jan 1995:

He came in at 83rd place behind people like Elektra, Catwoman, and Robin with 16,400 units sold.
He gained some popularity in the 2000s thanks to news circulating about a movie in development (this started as early as 1996 which is why I linked 1995 earlier, but he jumped around between all kinds of big name producers, writers, and actors before hopping back to Marvel) but he was still behind everyone listed earlier with 44,519 units sold.

Then his sales, right after the release of the first movie (68,995).

EDIT: Should have read the comment chain. No one is talking about his general popularity. Yeah he has always been bigger than the Guardians and made them possible IMO, though his first movie was definitely a bigger risk.
