For the general audience it's at 49% and it says user ratings is at nearly 80,000. Surely..is that saying they are comparing what 80,000 people thought vs what a few hundred critics thought? Am I getting this correctly?

Rottentomatoes works by a rotten/fresh rating, with nothing in between.

Which leads to oddball reviews like "Uninspired acting, bad special effects, poor pacing: FRESH!"

That's one of the biggest complaints about the site, it doesn't distinguish between kinda liking, loving, not loving or hating, not hating but not liking, and loathing a movie. You could get 80% rottens and every one might recommend the thing, and vice versa.

There's a scene at the end in which they are swarmed by ghosts and each busts out their new weapons or what have you, and it occurred to me that showing them kick ass was a big deal. Plus Kate McKinnon genuinely kicked ass.

That one Kate McKinnon kicking ass scene was kickass 👆 she definitely is the breakout performance.

Thor is really fuking good at playing an idiot and I thought Leslie Jones surprisingly was fun to watch.

It's not a shloppy comedy with ghostbusters in it, it's actually something unique worth checking out. Not as laugh out loud hilarious as Paul Feig's other works like Spy or The Heat, but still consistently funny.

The main reason is China's censorship laws typically don't allow ghost or other supernatural films. Beyond that, China limits the number of foreign films each year. In other words, China is a shit hole.

I ain't even seen it, and wasn't really interested in the idea of an all female Ghostbuster team. But I didn't hate on it either, and apparently it's pretty good.
