I keep on trying to play that game and its gets annoying.....there is something about it.....In my opinion, I think both The Division games are the best example of loot shooters.First....playing co-op in first person is good...but there is something about third person and being able to see more around you that makes the coop experience significantly better. I can usually see my friend while running around in the Division but with Destiny 2, it was a constant where the **** are you
Second.....how Division does open world and tie them up with missions is significantly more immersive than constant loading screens. Oh, I want to do mission 2 again...just walk there, open the menu in real time and start....2 seconds later, the mission starts.
Third....the here something to be said about having the ability to go into the common areas...and then just walk out....and you are in the world they created.....no loading screens...no stupid find the ****ing guy to put you on the spaceship....none of that shit.
Forth.....the Ubisoft open world way of doing things is better than whatever Destiny is....you can explore and it feels real....activities are clearly marked and super easy to setup....I dont need to be in free play or any of that shit. I can do 15 activities than start a mission....not go into free play, do a bunch of shit...and then leave free play areas...and then start a mission.
And I think the loot system is better....something drops, I can equip it right away....there is no engrams and any of that shit (but I do think Destiny does have items drops that can be equipped....
Other loot shooters I have tried (Destiny, Anthem, Outriders and etc) are not the same and I wish other companies take a few queues from that series. Those games feel like a singleplayer RPG rather than a series of events/areas.
Yeah most drops now can be equipped immediately. Occasionally you will get one where you'll need to go back to the hub to get it ID'd but those are rare. They made that change sometime ago.
But yeah D2 is very hectic and it can be difficult to keep track of people in your group. That's ok for me, since I don't do raids or high end content, just stuff where cluster ****ing about is fine.
D2 is very unintuitive when you first start though. The game does a horrendous job of getting the new player introduced to the systems and the story, and what they're supposed to be doing after the initial tutorial segment. Also the game doesn't really explain key systems like the newish mod system that alters your powers a bit, which is key for creating builds that mesh with certain pieces of armor and weapons. It's something they should really prioritize moving forward because for a new player it's very confusing and frustrating.
Basically D2 just has some amazing moment to moment gameplay. The gunplay is top tier, all the guns feel good, movement feels good, the graphics are nice, etc. The game is very fun to sit and play, but all the aspects surrounding it need a ton of work.
The lore itself is very interesting but how its told in game is a joke. And it's compounded by large swaths of the game having been removed now so it's literally impossible to actually experience the full story in game.
The actual progression treadmill is good. It's exciting getting new gear, and there are a lot of super cool exotic weapons for a player to chase, and getting one feels very good. They recently started their 30th anniversary event and introduced some classic halo weapons into the game, and playing with those is really fun.
I should try the Division 2 sometime. I played a bit of the first and thought it was pretty good.
